In 2012, T-Mobile promised that it would launch a high-speed 4G LTE network in 2013 to compete against its rivals and while a specific release date is not yet known, it appears that the release date for T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network could come as soon as a few weeks from now.

At the Citi Global conference in Las Vegas today, according to TMoNews, T-Mobile’s Chief Technology Officer Neville Ray revealed that the carrier’s upcoming 4G LTE network will be launching in two to three weeks and that the first city that will see the new 4G LTE data speeds will be Las Vegas. Las Vegas of course was one of the first cities that hosted T-Mobile’s high-speed HSPA+ 42 network so it’s no surprise that it’s at the forefront with LTE.

The iPhone should be a major part of T-Mobile’s 4G LTE growth.

Neville did not confirm a specific release date it seems so it’s possible that the network may launch outside of January. However, it’s looking like T-Mobile intends to launch its 4G LTE device at some point in the near future rather than later in the year when its competitors – AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile – are even bigger.

T-Mobile has been testing its 4G LTE network in preparation for its launch but so far, the network remains out of consumers hands. T-Mobile still hasn’t launched a phone marketed as its 4G LTE flagship though the carrier has said that it will enable 4G LTE speeds with the Galaxy Note 2 through a software update in the future. That could mean that the Galaxy Note 2 will be its first 4G LTE smartphone.

The company’s CTO also did not reveal any other markets so it’s unclear if T-Mobile will launch its 4G LTE network in just one singular market or if it plans on announcing more markets at a press event during CES 2013 in Las Vegas.

In 2013, T-Mobile finally plans to join AT&T, Sprint and Verizon Wireless on the LTE spectrum. 4G LTE will provide T-Mobile customers with even faster all-around data than HSPA+ 42 and speeds that can reach up to 10 times faster than 3G. The difference can be seen in the video below.

Already, Verizon’s 4G LTE network is available in more than 400 markets in the U.S. while AT&T and Sprint sit below 200 total. Verizon plans to finish its roll out in mid-2013 just as T-Mobile’s LTE network will likely be growing.
