T-Mobile iPad 5 & iPad mini 2 Possible as CEO Teases More Apple

Shoppers may soon see a T-Mobile iPad option arrive as the T-Mobile CEO teases that the company will offer more than just the iPhone.

While John Legere didn’t commit to an iPad 5 or an iPad mini 2, when asked about the future he discusses carrying an expanded product line.

Apple offers the iPad 4 on AT&T, Sprint and Verizon, all of which added the iPad soon after carrying the iPhone. T-Mobile launched the iPhone 5 earlier this year and recently reported selling nearly 1 million iPhone models.

T-Mobile’s expanding 4G LTE network offers a much greater value to Apple than it did in year’s past, which could lead to a T-Mobile iPad 5 and T-Mobile iPad mini 2 with LTE later this year.

We could see a T-Mobile iPad 5 or iPad mini 2 building on the success of the T-Mobile iPhone 5.

Speaking to AllThingsD, Legere hints at future Apple products, but doesn’t specifically name the iPad lineup.

“That said, Legere looks forward to more business with Apple, including carrying products beyond the iPhone.

“I think there’s a whole array of Apple products that we look forward to carrying,” Legere said. “We will expand what we offer from them.””

The current Apple lineup doesn’t include a product other than the iPhone or iPad which also includes LTE, which makes a T-Mobile iPad a pretty good bet for this fall.

The iPad 5 could look like the iPad mini with a smaller overall size but the same 9.7-inch Retina Display found on the iPad 4. The new design is reportedly lighter.

Rumors are split on the iPad mini 2. Some claim the iPad mini 2 will include a Retina Display this year and others suggest it will not come until 2014, or that the iPad mini 2 will not feature a Retina Display at all and will come in late 2013.

In addition to a T-Mobile iPad we should also see a T-Mobile iPhone 5S, a new Apple iPhone for 2013 that rumors point to arriving in late September. The iPhone 5S will likely look similar to the iPhone 5 with a better camera, faster processor and possible a fingerprint reader in the home button.

If T-Mobile offers the new iPad this fall, that could still leave one iPhone carrier without an iPad. U.S. Cellular will carry the iPhone this year, likely the iPhone 5S, but there is no word as to wether the regional carrier will also sell the rumored iPad 5 with LTE.

T-Mobile is on the list of carriers to sell the Nexus 7 LTE, Google’s iPad mini competitor that packs a high-resolution display and the latest version of Android into a small package.
