The Tech 21 iPhone 6 case is a slim case that promises a lot of protection thanks to an interesting material that lines the edges of the case.
Although the Tech 21 iPhone 6 case isn’t much larger than competing cases, the company claims the Impactology protects your iPhone 6 without the need for a lot of bulk.
On top of delivering protection, the Tech 21 iPhone 6 case looks quite nice as well. There are multiple Tech 21 cases for the iPhone 6 that all use this material to protect the phone from drops.
Specifically this review focuses on the Tech 21 Classic Frame Smokey iPhone 6 case, but it should apply closely to the Tech 21 Classic Shell for the iPhone 6 which uses the same edge protection, but offers a soft back instead of a rigid one like this case.
The Tech 21 iPhone 6 case is available for $34.95 and comes in a variety of color options. The company also offers other versions that use the same Impactology material in Tactical and flip cover styles.
The Tech 21 iPhone 6 case fits nicely on the slick iPhone 6, adding a lot of grip thanks to the rubbery edges. Inside the smoke gray plastic is an orange band of D30 — the stuff that delivers the Impactology protection. I really like the orange in gray look of this case.
Edges curve similar to the curve of the iPhone 6, but they are more angled for better grip. The edge protrudes to kep the face fo the iPhone 6 off a table when you set it down and add better drop protection. This means your finger no longer slides up the curved edge of the iPhone 6 to the screen, but you can still use the iOS 8 gestures that make using this larger phone easier.
The volume and power button are covered, but easy to use. The mute switch is left open and accessible, but you’ll need to use a pointer finger instead of flicking the switch with your thumb. The bottom edge of the Tech 21 iPhone 6 case is open to allow access to the headphone jack, microphone, speaker and charging port.
It is easy to take the Tech 21 iPhone 6 case off. Start at a bottom corner and pull away to separate the two. There is no chance that the case will slip off under normal use based on my testing.
This iPhone 6 case covers the corners and edges of the iPhone 6, which are most likely to hit the ground when you drop it. The D30 material should absorb the impact, keeping most of the force away from the iPhone 6. This should prevent damage to the frame and damage to the screen. I am using it with a Zagg InvisibleShield Glass screen protector to offer additional protection from a drop, in case the screen hits a sharp object.
Although I did not purposefully drop my iPhone 6 in the Tech21 case we’ve used these cases on the iPhone 5s and they held up well to drops and other accidents. In the video below you can see how the D30 Impactology material works to absorb an impact, keeping a finger safe from a hammer. I’ve experienced this demo in person, and it’s pretty impressive.
You can find the Tech 21 iPhone 6 case direct from the company and at carriers like Verizon in a variety of colors and models from $34.95.

Apple Leather iPhone 6 Cases
One of the most popular iPhone 6 cases is the leather iPhone 6 case from Apple. This case is one that you can find in any Apple Store on release day and is also listed with many carriers.
Apple designs the leather iPhone 6 case with premium leather in a small form factor that adds minimal bulk to the new iPhone. You can find the leather iPhone 6 case in five color options that match the white and black front of the iPhone 6.
Watch out if you buy the red iPhone 6 case as the leather model for the iPhone 5s wore very fast and looked dirty and grey soon after purchasing.
