The Archos 9 Internet Tablet Reviewed

archos9Steve “Chippy” Paine has put up a review of the Archos 9 Internet Tablet. I wish I could say I was surprised by his findings but I’m not. He notes that the size diminishes its usefulness when mobile, the battery life is not what we’d like to see, and the out of the box install of Windows 7 Starter edition essentially cripples touch on the device. (My words in summary, not his.)

Was Archos aiming for the couch surfing set? Possibly. But as I’ve said before, consumers who get caught up in the Tablet frenzy (The New York Times has proclaimed 2010 as the Year of the Tablet), need to pay attention or they will be disappointed.

Selling inadequate devices is probably one of the reasons Tablet PCs did poorly. It would be a shame if history were to repeat itself with tablets.
