The Night After Christmas by Tom Bishop

‘Twas the night after Christmas, and all through the house
Not an input was stirring, not a pen, not a mouse.

The tech heads were sprawled on their futons and beds
While visions of gadgets danced in their heads.

Ma with her tablet and me UMPCs
Had just settled in to recharge batteries.

When out on the net there arose such a clatter,
I sprang to my convertible to log in and chatter.

And what to my wandering browser appeared,
but a whole raft of updates and patches I feared.

Windows, Adobe, Norton and Quicktime,
And two dozen others even harder to rhyme.

I spared not a moment but went straight to my work;
I downloaded, accepted, rebooted and jerked.

My system restared, status all clear,
No threats were detected, I opened a beer.

As I powered back down, I heard Ballmer’s voice,
“Vista’s coming, it’s coming. Upgrade and rejoice!”

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year to all.

Thanks, Tom.
