This $3,000 Gold iPhone 5s Outdoes Anything Apple Will Sell You

Though Apple will sell you an iPhone 5s starting today for an entry price of $650, Apple’s gold-hued iPhone is just that–a color. For those who want a little bit more of a premium experience with Apple’s best flagship smartphone to date, London’s GoldenGenie is delivering a plated iPhone 5s in real precious metal. For the luxury-inspired, a 24 CT gold, rose gold, Platinum, or Swarovski-encrusted iphone 5s could now be pre-ordered, all for a starting price of around $3,000.

And as all premium experiences go, your gold-dipped phone will ship in a unique Cherry Oak valet box to give it the feel of a previous gem or jewel.

Platinum may be a good choice for those who may not want to join the gold rush and may be considering the silver or space grey iPhone 5s, but with a fatter wallet.

The phones that GoldGenie will be selling will be authentic Apple iPhone models, complete with the new A7 64-bit processor, M7 Motion co-processor, and the new 8-megapixel camera. What’s different is that rather than using a paint for the color of the unibody aluminum casing as Apple’s design team has done, Gold Genie will be plating the iPhone 5s using these precious metals in a variety of styles.

GoldGenie had given the HTC One a similar Midas touch in the past, and it looks like the iPhone 5s treatment will be no different. A golden Galaxy S4 was also offered.

Customers who own an iphone 5 and want to get their existing phones plated in gold can ship their current smartphone to GoldGenie as well, so you don’t have to buy an entirely new phone to get the gold experience. The pricess starts at around $850 for the iPhone 5 through this process.

In the past, we’ve seen various third-party companies take on popular flagship phones and plating them in precious metals, or sometimes even replacing the metal or plastic casing with a precious metal sheet. The experience often is expensive but delivers a more personalized and unique experience than just the typical gold-toned aluminum that Apple will sell you.

The downside to this decadence? Apple likely won’t honor your warranty as GoldGenie would likely have to disassemble the iPhone 5s to coat it in precious metal.
