Top 5 Cydia Apps for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch

Jailbreaking your iPhone gives you new features, cracked apps, live wallpapers and much more. I have looked into Cydia (Cydia is the main “Cracked App Store” for jailbroken iDevices) and found the best of the best. These apps are all universal, except for one.

Android Lock (Free and Full version available)

Android Lock is a great utility app for iPhone. Its unique and easy-to-use interface is great for users who are tired of the boring four number standard passcode. With Android Lock, this tweak can allow you to use an Android style passcode by making a pattern. Unlike the Android version, you can use the same dot more than once. There is a full version which costs $0.99 and allows you to add themes and different settings. You can get this tweak for free (go to cydia, manage, source, edit, add, and type in

I would rate this app a 5 out of 5.

Barrel (Full version only, but can be downloaded free using source files)

Some of you will be very confused by this picture. But this is probably the best cydia tweak on the market. Barrel is a tweak that lets you do amazing things. When you swipe pages on your iOS device, it does a simple slide transition to the next screen. But with Barrel, you can change that. When you turn the page, the icons can flip into place as if on the sides of a 3D cube. You can change the effect and use 3D screen transitions like barrel, cube, fade, and much more. This tweak definitely gets 5 out of 5 stars.

qTweeter (Full version only, but can be downloaded free using source files)

When you are in a rush, Twitter (or any program) can sometimes be frustrating. But with qTweeter, you can easily update your status on Twitter and Facebook right from your home screen! All you do is swipe down from the top of your iOS device and type in your status.

You can change the effect when the menu comes down. You can add pictures, music, retweets and change accounts in a second. Especially in the car, you don’t have to open the Twitter app. Or if you don’t have the Twitter app, go to safari, wait for internet to connect and go to That takes far too long. With qTweeter, that takes seconds, depending how long your tweet is. This app gets a 4.5 out of 5.

MXTube (Free version available)

I had an ipod touch that was wi-fi only. There was a new video by soldierknowsbest, but I couldn’t watch it because I didn’t have internet connection. But with MXTube, you can change that. MXTube is the virst native Youtube video downloader, and you can download it free from cydia.

For example, Nyan Cat is a very popular youtube video. I am very addicted to that, and there is a four hour version. I wanted to watch it, so I downloaded it using MXTube and could watch it without an internet connection.

Youtube without internet… genius. And 5 out of 5 stars.

Winterboard (Free)

Winterboard is an essential for jailbroken iDevices. Winterboard allows you to “theme” your iOS device. You can download themes and they will be stored inside Winterboard. You can choose themes to put on your iDevice. An example is the picture on the right. That is where you can choose the videos. The picture on the left is what one of the many themes on cydia look like. You can even make your own theme on various websites. This app should get 8 out of 5 stars, in my opinion.

Cydia’s great for kids, particularly young iOS users who are looking for a way to get to that next level of iOS customization.

Honestly these apps are no longer on anyones top 5 cydia app list and half of them shouldn’t even be on a top 5 cydia app list to begin with. There are newer apps that are so much better like the bigU movies app which allows me to watch all the new movies such as Colombiana, Contagion and thousands of dvd movies directly on my ipad and ipod touch with user friendly gui that easily supports AirPlay to Apple TV. Also some older apps like the Installous app which is a classic and allows me to get premium apps for free. These two apps are the most sought after apps on Cydia atm.

“allows me to get premium apps for free” – let me fix that for you:

“allows me to steal premium paid apps and screw developers out of a living”

I agree using cydia or jailbreaking your iOS device just to get free apps is unethical. It is meant to be used to get apps that apple has refused to put on their app store.
