It also comes with a better performance and a new gold color.

If you have you eyes on Apple's full sized iPad Air but don't want to pay $500 or more, have a look at last year's version of the iPad that's $100 less and extremely powerful.

The first-gen iPad Air may not come with Touch ID, a gold color, the improved design, or the performance enhancements but it's still a fantastic package and one that's going to be perfectly fine for most people. And best of all, it won't set you back more than $500 during the holidays.

Apple's iPad Air isn't going anywhere. iOS 8 served as its first major iOS update and there's a good chance that this device will continue to get updates for three years making it a sound investment at a year in. If you don't want to break the bank and you want the full-sized iPad, take a look at last year's model.
