Smart home accessories are becoming more and more popular these days, but the biggest problem is that many companies are getting in on the fun and implementing their own proprietary systems. However, TP-Link’s new router aims to streamline all of your different-branded accessories to work well with each other.
The SR20 router from TP-Link is essentially an AC1900 dual-band router that can produce network speeds of up to 1.3Gbps. It also has a fancy 4.3-inch touchscreen for navigation and configuring the router. There’s even a built-in SD card slot.
However, perhaps the most important feature of the new router is the ability to act as a smart home hub, since the router natively supports the ZigBee and Z-Wave wireless standards, which are used by most smart home hubs on the market.
This means that instead of having to connect your smart home accessories to a hub, you can connect them to the router directly.
From there, instead of using a whole bunch of different apps to control all of your smart home accessories, you can use the TP-Link app to control all of them from one place.
Of course, there are many services out there that can streamline a handful of different accessories into one app and connect them to one hub, but it’s still not at a place where every accessory can do that. For the time being, though, the SR20 router looks like a good option for this.
Unfortunately, pricing and availability weren’t disclosed, but that information should arrive to the public soon enough.
