Unbreakable Phone Breaks on Camera at CES2010

Google Reader (185)Remember the days gone by when Rob Bushway, Matt Faulkner and I tried to destroy a rugged MobileDemand xTablet T8700 at CES? We tried, we failed. The product lived up to its claims.

Well that didn’t happen this year with Sonim, the maker of what they call “the world’s toughest phone.”  This BBC footage catches the company’s CEO watching when the reporter actually breaks the screen after just giving the pitch to the camera. Back to the drawing board. Ouch.

You can watch the video here.

That’s funny. Too bad he didn’t get to take it for a tour of Vegas on a magic carpet, though.

I actually witnessed this on Failblog earlier, which is a pretty apt place for a mishap like that.

The screen seems to be the most delicate part of any modern gadget, so I would think that they would reinforce it better…

Would have thought that they would have visited the Corning Gorilla Glass stand at CES to beg for help… Don’t know why they wouldn’t have it on a phone like this.

Well, while they did say it’s unbreakable, I wonder how many people will really be repeatedly hitting the screen on a sharp point… I wouldn’t be too terribly worried.
