UPS Adds Text Delivery Notification & More, Gadget Lovers Rejoice
That loud shout you just heard was the entire gadget ordering population rejoicing in the new UPS My Choice program, which will send out alerts to help you know when UPS is going to deliver your packages.
The new service launches on October 3rd and includes a slew of free and paid options that will allow you to take more control of your UPS deliveries, and hopefully avoid failed deliveries forever.
Here’s how “Out for Delivery” has changed for UPS deliveries.

The new UPS My Choice program offers the following benefits for free,
- Text, Email or Phone alerts
- Approximate Deliver Time
- Authorize Delivery Without Signature
- Hold for Will Call at UPS Facility
You can also pay $5 for the following benefits, if you opt for the premium $40 a year UPS My Choice Membership these are inclued for free.
- Deliver to UPS Store
- Reschedule Delivery
- Deliver to Another Address
Additionally Premium members can take further control of their UPS deliveries with the following benefits.
- Delivery Planner – online calendar of deliveries
- Leave At Instructions for Drivers
- Leave With a Neighbor Instructions
- 2 hour Delivery Window – $5 fee per delivery for premium members
Sadly, UPS has stopped short of allowing you to see where the UPS truck is located for stalking the driver to get your new phone a little bit faster.
These changes make it much nicer for those of us waiting for a new gadget, or gift, to arrive. There are plenty of times where I would gladly pay the $5 fee to have a package delivered to a nearby UPS Store, and it is nice to have easy access to send to a UPS Facility. If only Fedex allowed me to pay $5 to send the occasional package to the UPS Store.
