Verizon 4G LTE Smartphone Prices Fall Further Ahead of Major Launches

Published

on

We still have no idea when the Motorola Droid Bionic will be coming, September is quickly becoming the front runner, but that hasn’t stopped retailers from slashing the prices on the current crop of Verizon 4G LTE smartphones. We have seen Wirefly do it and now, it’s Amazon’s turn as the retailer has cut the prices of the Samsung Droid Charge and the HTC ThunderBolt down to extremely low levels. For those discouraged with the drawn out release of the Droid Bionic, these prices might be something to keep in mind while you’re on the hunt for a new phone. That being said, I still recommend waiting for the Droid Bionic, or at the very least, Verizon’s version of the Samsung Galaxy S II which may or may not have 4G LTE on board.

ThunderBolt

How do the deals look? Well, the prices are unsurprisingly good. Amazon has the HTC ThunderBolt listed for a mere $50 and the Samsung Droid Charge has dropped down to its lowest price ever at the retailer, sitting pretty with a $100 price tag. These are great options for those that don’t want to break the bank with a new 4G LTE smartphone and want to get on the train now.

The Droid Bionic will likely cost $250-300 at the start and if the Galaxy S II does in fact have LTE, I’d imagine that the phone will be right around there as well. That’s not cheap for most people so I understand if the HTC ThunderBolt or Droid Charge look appealing. And if they don’t, Amazon has some other non-LTE phones available for some great prices as well.

Motorola’s recently launched Droid 3 is $50, the Sprint Nexus S 4G which just got a fabulous update is only a penny, and the Motorola Droid X2 which may have just gotten Gingerbread is at $50.

Again, if you can, hang tight for the Galaxy S II and the Droid Bionic but if you have to pull the trigger, these prices are probably unbeatable.

Is there a downside to buying a phone from a retailer versus buying directly from Verizon?

I purchased my xperia play through amazon and the process was completely painless if not enjoyable. Customer service was knowledgeable and courteous (holds true for amazon and wirefly, imo).

Android 4G phones will continue to drop in price. Just wait it out and you should have a free 4G phone.
