Verizon Nexus 6 Release Kicks off Early

Published

on

Last week, after weeks of rumors and speculation following months of silence from the carrier, the Verizon Nexus 6 release date was officially announced and confirmed. Last Thursday the Verizon Nexus 6 was officially released, however according to the website it was only a pre-order, with devices not expected to ship until March 18th.

Back in October Google confirmed its brand new smartphone was headed to all major US carriers, including Verizon Wireless. It was set to be the first Nexus smartphone offered by Verizon in multiple years. Eventually the Nexus 6 was announced and released from all carriers in November, except Verizon.

As of today the Nexus 6 is finally available from all five major carriers in the United States. With the Verizon Nexus 6 only available online, with an official in-store release set for Thursday, March 18th. Today we received good news though, as it appears that some orders started shipping yesterday, so overnight deliveries are arriving today, and many are getting the Verizon Nexus 6 tomorrow.

Verizon took to Twitter and Verizon.com to confirm the release, letting users know about the Verizon Nexus 6 release date, pricing, upgrade terms and more. We initially thought pre-orders wouldn’t ship until this Thursday, according to the website, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. Multiple comments on Twitter, and from readers, have confirmed it’s arriving today for some.

Heading over to the Verizon Nexus 6 page you’ll see the device is available now in the 32GB Midnight Blue color option for $249 with a new 2-year contract, $27.08 a month with Verizon Edge, or the expected $649 outright price. Verizon’s site still says you can buy it now, but it won’t be “available until 3/18”. Verizon also has a bundle offering a screen protector, case, and car charger all for $299 on contract.

While typically smartphones are released after a short pre-order period, Verizon didn’t state last week’s release would be a pre-order, and apparently that’s because it wasn’t. There was just a few days of delays in gathering inventory and getting shipments ready, because as of right now users are getting shipping notifications that their Verizon Nexus 6 with Android 5.1 Lollipop are on the way.

For now, it appears that those who’ve pre-ordered are getting their devices ahead of the March 18th release date from Verizon, but not all orders will go out at the same time. If you ordered the Nexus 6 last week from Verizon, be on the lookout for an email notification letting you know the device has shipped.

Did you pre-order the Verizon Nexus 6? And if so, has it arrived yet? If not, expect an updated shipping status or a shipment confirmation in the near future.

Got my email today. Unfortunately when I ordered it last week, I opted for the free 2-day shipping vs the additional cost O/N shipping. Guess I’ll have to wait an extra day as the tracking number states Wednesday delivery. Oh well, waited 5 month’s for Verizon to finally offer this phone, what’s another day.
