Users of the Nokia Lumia 822 will be prompted by their devices to download a small update this week.
While there are widespread reports that there is an update for the device, there are no release notes that we could find that indicated what the software update is designed to fix. According to WPCentral their Nokia Lumia 822 was immediately updated once they’d turned their device on.
The amount of time it takes the update to install is a key indicator of its intended nature, since most large operating system updates and firmware updates typically have long install times on Windows Phone 8. A short install indicates the possibility of small bug fixes.
Currently the only major bug we could find being reported by users of the Nokia Lumia 822 is a small issue that prevents users from sending SMS messages to the device after being prompted to upgrade to Windows Phone’s “Portico” update.
That update brought two features related to SMS messages. The first included the ability to draft SMS messages and have the device save them so that the users could finish editing them, or send them later without having to start again fresh.
That update also included the ability to reply to incoming phone calls with SMS messages when the user wasn’t able to take a call. Previously, users could only ignore the call, then navigate to the messages area to give the person who called an explanation about why they weren’t able to answer the phone.
The Nokia Lumia 822 is currently the only Nokia Lumia device available on Verizon, the United States’ largest mobile carrier. It appears that it will be joined by the Nokia Lumia 928 at some point this month, according to Bloomberg.
Those reports indicate that the Lumia 928 will ship with a 4.5 inch display, 8 megapixel camera, Nokia’s PureView camera technology and Xenon flash. These reports also indicate that the Nokia Lumia 928 will be the first Nokia device to feature a metal back instead of the Lumia line’s traditional polycarbonate casing.
