VIA Will No Longer Make Chipsets for Intel and AMD Systems

Published

on

Preferring to focus on its Nano chipset line, VIA Tehcnologies is no longer going to produce chipsets for PCs that use Intel and AMD processors. VIA’s Richard Brown told CustomPC that:

One of the main reasons we originally moved into the x86 processor business was because we believed that ultimately the third party chipset market would disappear, and we would need to have the capability to provide a complete platform. That has indeed come to pass.”

As VIA now moves to work on developing complete platforms rather than components, it will be interesting to see what impact this has on the emerging mobile market.
