Walmart is going full-bore with Black Friday deals including a huge ad campaign with Melissa Joan Hart and Anthony Anderson discussing the new Walmart Black Friday 1 Hour Guarantee. You’ll see Walmart Black Friday ads boasting that nine of their top ads come with a 1 Hour Guarantee for Black Friday 2014.
Walmart no longer advertises the 1 Hour In Stock Guarantee like it did last year, which led to some confusion over the use of In Stock, so the retailer shortened it up to offer nine 1 Hour Guarantee items. There are definitely some catches, but if you want to stand in line on Thanksgiving Day, Walmart offers the best chance at getting what you want even if the store sells out.
Retailers used to brag about opening at 5 AM on Black Friday, but now the deals start on Thanksgiving Day, and this year the Walmart Black Friday deals are available starting at 6 PM on Thanksgiving Day. This is an hour after Best Buy starts the official Black Friday sales.
Are Walmart’s guaranteed deals actually worth skipping Thanksgiving dinner for? We take a look at each of the Walmart Black Friday deals that are part of the Walmart 1 Hour Guarantee to see it you should skip the turkey or if waiting in line will make you a turkey.
This is a mixed bag of deals, but overall it is better than in 2013 with a more focused approach and a wider range of deals. There are no small deals to inflate the number of items covered under this guarantee, so we’re left with nine deals that fall under this promise.
Walmart no longer calls these Black Friday deals a, “1 Hour In Stock Guarantee.” The new name more closely matches how this deal works. There is a chance that your store will sell out of the Walmart 1 Hour Guarantee Black Friday deals, but if that happens you can still buy one if you are in line at the right time.
To get in on this promise, you need to be in the right line before 7 PM local time. If the item sells out you get a 1 Hour Guarantee Ticket that you can use at checkout to pay for the item, even through you won’t have your actual deal. Then you take the ticket and receipt online to register and choose the store you want to pick it up from. Then, Walmart will ship it to that store in time for a Christmas pickup.
You can buy more than one 1 Hour Guarantee item, if you can get through lines fast enough. But, you can only buy one of each of the deals listed and it’s going to be tough to move from one line to the next in just 60 minutes. If you want to score multiple deals, your best bet is to plan out your trip with a Walmart Black Friday store map and to bring friends or family.
Here’s a breakdown of the Walmart 1 Hour Guarantee deals so you can decide if they are worth buying.
iPad Mini Black Friday Deal at Walmart
The Walmart iPad mini deal may not be the deepest discount, but it is tied with Target for the best iPad mini Black Friday deal of the year. Walmart chops $50 off the price of the iPad mini and includes a $30 gift card that you can use on a future purchase. This combines for $80 in savings and essentially means you'll get an iPad mini for $169 after you factor in all the savings. That's a steal, even for the older version of the iPad without a Retina display.
