People cannot wait to buy the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, but there are five good reasons to wait a little while before you buy your new iPhone.

There is nothing wrong with buying the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, in fact I’m using both now, but for users who bought these smartphones early it is not the typical smooth iPhone experience.

iPhone users who are lusting after the bigger screens and sleeker designs but don’t want to deal with the hassles of being an early adopter of new iPhone 6 screen sizes and designs can deliver an experience many iPhone owners aren’t used to.

There is hope that buy the time most iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus orders ship these problems, bugs and user experience issues will all be gone, so it is a good idea to place an order if you want one of the hard to find models. But here are a few reasons you may want to wait instead of going from store to store trying to find an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus in stock.

iPhone 6 & iPhone 6 Plus Apps

Not all apps look great on the iPhone 6 Plus.

Not all apps look great on the iPhone 6 Plus.

Most of the apps on your iPhone 5s are not upgraded and ready for the larger iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus screen. Instead of putting black bars around the display Apple blows the app up to fit the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screens. This is better than black bars, but it means many apps look blurry and quite awful.

The difference is most apparent on the iPhone 6 Plus, but the same issue is there on the iPhone 6. The Gmail app is a great example of how bad an app can look. It is blurry and everything looks huge on the iPhone 6 Plus. Older apps also use a different keyboard so touch typing is a pain on both models with keys in different locations.

You can count on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus app updates rolling out over the next month, so if you don’t want to use blurry apps it’s worth waiting.

iPhone 6 Bugs & Problems

Even before the botched iOS 8.0.1 release this week we ran into small issues using the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The software is definitely in need of fixes to prevent app crashes and to allow small things like the camera shutter button to work reliably.

We should see an iOS 8.0.2 release soon to fix some of these issues, but with another update looming in October we can see Apple fixing more problems in the coming weeks.

Apple Pay

Apple Pay is one of the most exciting new iPhone 6 features. Apple Pay uses a small NFC chip inside the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus to communicate with a credit card reader at stores so you can use the iPhone as your wallet. The thing is you can’t use Apple Pay yet.

At the announcement Apple promised a free update will unlock Apple Pay on the new iPhones sometime in October. Once this arrives you can store credit cards in Passbook and make payments at participating retailers. Unfortunately not many accept NFC payments just yet.

Avoid the Stress

Tracking down an iPhone 6 in stock at a local store can turn into a part-time job, and don’t even bother looking at carriers for an iPhone 6 Plus in stock yet.

Unless you plan to buy your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus from an Apple Store with in store pickup, you’re going to waste time calling stores, waiting outside for a store to open and stressing yourself out when you can simply place an order for delivery in a few weeks or wait until the excitement dies down.

Cases & Accessories

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus are slippery, and feel best in a case based on our time with the new iPhones.

There are a good number of iPhone 6 cases available, but it’s harder to find an excellent iPhone 6 Plus case on store shelves. Accessories are also in short supply as manufacturers ramp up production.
