Since the announcement of Android 5.0 Lollipop back on October 15th, Google’s been extremely busy updating many core Google apps to match the brand new look and feel of Android Lollipop, called Material Design. Bringing a bold new look that is lively, interactive, friendly, and full of animations and effects.

Over the past two months we’ve seen almost all Google apps receive updates, as well as many third party apps joining the material design look to keep in tune with Android 5.0 Lollipop. A few that have been left out our Google Hangouts, and of course YouTube hasn’t changed in years.

As of late last night a brand new version of YouTube was released on the Google Play Store, although most users have yet to receive it. Listed as YouTube 6, or YouTube 6.0.11 to be exact, a brand new look and feel comes to the world’s most popular video site on the entire internet. The update to YouTube bringing it up to speed with the new release of Android 5.0 Lollipop and material design is what you’d expect. Google’s changed the entire look, and more importantly, the feel. Everything has changed from the typography, colors, the big bold red header on top, circular avatar icons and more. Buttons have animations and effects for a visual and lively response when touched, and much more.

YouTube has a new icon that’s similar to other recently updated Google Apps, the top header changes colors to match the channel you’re currently viewing, and you’ll notice some new features too. Google’s paid attention to channels, filters, advanced filters, and a much improved slide-out menu and settings list on the left.

For whatever reason this is among the last apps from Google to be updated to the Android 5.0 Lollipop design, style, look and feel, but it was one worth waiting for. We’ve seen a newly tweaked version of Hangouts floating around as well, and Google’s continued to make minor tweaks and more material design changes to the Google Play Store, and Google Chrome over the past few weeks.

Updates to apps like YouTube or any Google app from the Play Store roll out slowly, in phases, in order for Google to catch and potential problems or bugs before the mass public receives the update. This is why the update started yesterday, but many smartphone and tablet owners have yet to receive it this afternoon.

If you’re looking to get the newest version of YouTube 6.0.11 with the new Android 5.0 look and feel, you can get it right now from the download link below. This comes straight from Google, and can be downloaded and sideloaded (or installed). Make sure installation from 3rd party sources is enabled in settings > security, and give it a try today.
