Zinio Starting to Offer eBooks

Published

on

zinio This is interesting and it may be old news that I’m just picking up on. Zinio, the excellent digital magazine reader looks like they are starting to get into delivering eBooks as well. This will be a welcome addition if that’s the case. Zinio was (and for some still is) very popular for awhile as it delivered content in a wonderful format on the screen that let you feel like you were reading the magazine.

I have to admit, I haven’t been using Zinio is quite some time, although I was an avid user for awhile. If anyone is currently doing so and checks this out let us know. Maybe I’ll have to get back into Zinio.

The problem with Zinio is not its great software, but the publishers who start with Zinio and then pull out and don’t refund your money. I have purchased a number of subscriptions that have died and not been refunded. Perhaps the publishers didn’t think they got enough customers to go to the trouble.. Think about it… no paper, no ink, no printing press to run, no distribution and transport costs. just post a file on the web and get heaps of cash.. Some one somewhere hasn’t realised it takes time to get things going. Not only that but I still have access to all my magazines from way back. If i delete it from my usb stick (I use U3 Zinio as it is very portable magazine and book rack) then i just go on the web and tell it to download again. I have used some others such as eReader (palmOS) microsoft reader (which is crap) and a couple more. Zinio doesn’t have the broad range of books available as the others but the mags are great, and I love the Classics.

It would be nice if all these digital folk could focus on delivery and cooperate on format. So far I have three different readers on my Treo, two on my USB Drive and half a dozen on my desktop. It would be nice to to select my favourite software and be able to open all titles..

If you change your browser user agent to match the iPhone’s, then go to zinio.com/iPhone, you get some of the magazine subscriptions for free… maybe that’d make you feel better about the subscriptions dying for some of your magazines.

I’ve used Zinio for a long time. I really liked in on my Toshiba M200 back in the old days. I thought it was a great fit for a Tablet. I was disappointed when they upgraded and took away the ability to ink as it worked originally (you could ink directly on the mag, now it’s on a sticky note). Overall I still really like it.
