Nokia Joins The App Store Wars

No surprise here, but Nokia is announcing at the Mobile World Congress that it will be opening an App Store for its devices. It will be called Ovi. Microsoft had earlier rolled out its plans for its Windows MarkePlace for Mobile. Google already has its Android store up and running and basically it looks like the combined wisdom out there is to follow Apple’s lead with an App Store for applications.

So, I guess this means we’ll see lots of data points in the future on which store has how many apps, and how many were downloaded/created/etc…. as measuring sticks for success.

I’m just wondering if one of the real measuring sticks will be which platform sells the most apps featuring flatulence.

For the record, Nokia had an “App Store” long before Apple. It’s called Download! and it comes standard on S60 phones. It’s not brilliant but it works the same way as Apples AppStore.
