Evernote on Android: Confusion Uploaded

While at CES 2011 looking up notebooks and laptops for Notebooks.com I’ve been using Evernote more than normal on my Android device and it’s proven to be an incredible tool, but the upload process on Android has given me a scare on multiple occasions.

The latest Evernote upgrade for Android brought about many improvements and a new look as well as a note upload confirmation alert which sits in the notification bar. In principle the idea is nice, but in practice the notification looks like the international no symbol, which leads to plenty of double takes after entering an important note on the show floor.

Here’s what the image looks like from a foot or so away, take a quick glance and what do you see?

When you get closer, you can tell that it is a checkmark, but to be certain you have to get much closer than you should.

What do you think, should this be changed or do I need some new eye glasses?

Glasses, or maybe valium. An elephant that never forgets with a green checkmark says no problems to me.

Great idea, by the way to leverage Evernote for this.

I have to agree with the glasses suggestion. And who tries to read what’s in the notification bar from a few feet away. Phones are normally left face up or down in which case you have to walk up to them and awaken them to see what’s on the screen anyway.

It is not a massive deal as you get used to it I suppose.
But being the anal type myself I have to agree that it is a bit of a design failure.
    It forgets its context.
It is a smallish icon which will be viewed on a small screen – so adding some tiny vague element to it is not at all informative as you say.
It should change color or put up a second check mark next to the icon so the quick view of two icons there will tell you all is OK etc…
Something more quickly visual without having to focus – as you said.
