CTIA’s spring tradeshow, CTIA Wireless, will be coming up in a few short weeks and is scheduled for March 22-24. According to the organization’s vice president, Rob Mesirow, there will be at least a significant new tablet announcement at the tradeshow.
For its part, Samsung’s press invitation to a media event at the show, which had been leaked on the Internet, implies that the company is getting ready to launch another Galaxy Tab variant. In light of Apple’s recent iPad 2 announcement, it’s unclear what Samsung’s plans would be as the company has, in the past, cancelled media events at the last minute due to either internal or market changes.
While CTIA has been previously centered around wireless networks, phones, apps, and accessories, this year with the booming tablet market, “We’re going to see a ton of tablets at this show,” says Mesirow.
In addition to tablets, Mesirow expects there to be a few smartphone announcements, though he doesn’t know what phones will specifically be announced. Verizon Wireless had announced its 4G LTE Android smartphones at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this year, and so far none of the announced phones have launched from the carrier so it’s unclear if we’ll be seeing additional 4G LTE smartphones get announced at CTIA from Verizon. However, there may still be other 3G smartphones. Rival Sprint had announced its debut 4G Android smartphone at last year’s CTIA Wireless in Spring 2010 in the form of the HTC EVO 4G, which went on sale later that summer. It could be possible that Sprint will announce an EVO follow-up.
We’ll be in attendance at CTIA in Orlando Florida later this month so stay tuned to GottaBeMobile and Notebooks.com for continuing coverage.
