T-Mobile LG G2X Android Super Phone Reboots Randomly, Freezes?

Published

on

Select users have been noticing that the newly launched LG G2X Android smartphone for T-Mobile USA with a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor is suffering from either random reboots or freezes. Users who have experienced the problem were able to take their devices into T-Mobile where the carrier was able to swap out the device for a brand new one.

According to one user on the Android Central forum, the issue was random shut offs where pulling out the battery or forcing a soft reset did not solve the issue. Other users have noted that a hard reset wasn’t able to remedy the problem either:

I was so excited all day cause i thought i had a good one but then it kept shutting itself off randomly. i had to pull the battery and hook it up to a charger just to get it to reboot. it wasn’t a battery issue cause the battery was always right where i left it.

If you’re a proud owner of T-Mobile’s latest flagship smartphone, are you experiencing these problems?

With carriers and manufacturers rushing products out the door to capitalize on consumer and marketing hype, it seems that many of these smartphones are released with initial bugs and glitches with the hope that a future software update would rectify any problems on launch day. AT&T’s dual-core Motorola Atrix 4G, which utilizes the same NVIDIA processor, was launched sans 4G upload support despite being marketed as a 4G HSPA+ smartphone–the carrier did say that it would fix the problem in the future, but still hasn’t committed to a firm date.

Consumer remorse? The woes of being an early adopter? Or the rushed efforts of OEMs and carriers?

Yes finally someone else with this issue. My local store looked at me like I was making it up simply because I couldn’t replicate the rebooting issue while in-store. Those bastards.

Mine reboots daily on its own totally at random.

There was a lot of pressure on LG to release this phone, since it was the first dual core phone announced, yet the Atrix beat it to the punch. Granted, that extra time they had to develop the phone should have caught such a major glitch like this, but you can’t blame the company for “capitalizing on consumer hype” when people have been crying for the device since November.

So far I have not had this issue… Such a great phone! If you call tmobile customer care I am sure they will just send you a replacement..they have done it for all my prrvious crappy android phones that had same issues…finally a quality phone!

I’ve had mine reboot during a call, and once while playing with the settings, while installing apps. My gps doesn’t seem to lock on for nav unless reboot. The gps issue is annoying. I may have to get a replacement if it keeps happening. Outside of those things awesome phone.

The Atrix, including mine, has similar and widespread issues. I think it may be an issue with the Tegra 2, though the problem seems to have stopped since the last update.

Mine, reboot randomly but not that often, but one time it reboot while I was on a call for 30mins. Hope cyanogenmod 7 for g2x will come out a custom firmware and fixed this issue.

I am on my 3rd handset and it still does random reboots. This one is only 1 or 2 x a day. My wife’s has never had the issue. Sadly I’m still happier with this than my former MyTouch 3G .

I have had my G2x for six days now. It has rebooted a number of times and froze up while playing a video file. The T-Mobile customer care specialist suggested that I “factory reset” and then add apps back slowly to see if one of them is causing the issue. But if one of the apps is the problem, wouldn’t users of other handset models have rebooting issues as well??? We have 14 days to return the phone… so I have to decide to either return it… or keep it and hope the 2.3 Gingerbread update fixes it. Touch choice. I love the device but this is unacceptable.

You really need to bring it back to the store, and do an exchange. You have a defective device. Many of the first shipments have a software glitch. Remember, you only have 14 days from the original date of purchase to do an exchange in store. See my posts below…

Yup – here’s another one – hailing from San Antonio, Texas. Tomorrow first thing I’ll be bringing the phone back to the store; box and all – requesting another one. I’ve had it since 3:30pm this afternoon – and it started damn near immediately. I’ve done a soft reset; hard reset. I thought some of the apps that migrated over from my mt3g might have been causing the problem; but that’s been ruled out. As much as they made me pay for this phone – this is totally not cool. So; here we go – it’s like the g1 issue I had when it was first released; I went through 12 of them within a period of 13 months…and that’s no joke. Extended warranty purchased in case I drop it; or smash it out of frustration!!! (although of course, I love the phone to much to do so) – I just want one that works. It’s either freezing, or rebooting. Not coming out of it’s annoying “black screen” when you go to unlock it. Battery out; comes back to life – just to reboot itself. Clearly some kind of a software glitch out there. I wish they’d fix these problems before a major release. Flagship phone; it’s slim enough to stick it up their ship hole!!! I’m hoping the exchange will go smoothly and there won’t be any problem. I feel I should be compensated in some way shape or form for this – but yeah – that won’t happen. I guess I’m the idiot – taken for to much money – to have something that sounded to good. (starts humming, “you don’t always get what ya want”….)

Alright, Went back to the t mobile store this afternoon and exchanged it for a brand new 1. 1 of the customer service representative at the store told me that it is an issue that everyone knows about. I was told that the for shipment they recv’d, many of them have the same issue as mine, That is the freezin and rebooting as well as not waking up from the black screen. This forced users to have to do a soft reset, which is pulling the battery out of the back of the phone. I was told by a representative at the store, that the second shipment is not having these issues. Perhaps the bug was found, n tmobile was tired of having to exchange devices and sell refurbished ones at a discount (or ship them back and forth as replacements… remember when you receive a replacement phone it is never brand new!) So, here we go again and well see if the issue rearises. So far, show good. But it is only been on for an hour and a half ish…fingers crossed!!!

Yes I have had the same problem its actually kinda funny cause I went to a tmblobile store and told them about the shutting down problem and right when I said it the phone shut off and rebooted I told her about how many times this happens a day literally over 30 times. So now tomobile is sending a new one to my house ohh and don’t think its a problem with your battery cause it isn’t. The lady gave me a new battery to see if that was it and it wasn’t. I love the phone but this is unacceptable. I hope they come up with a solution fast. Aslo I’ve noticed if you don’t press the lock botton.and you let the screen turn off automatically then the thing doesn’t shut off or reboot but once you press the luck button then well you know so just q bit of info

T-mobile LG G2X sucks!!!  LG’s quality sucks!!! I won’t buy any LG handsets.
My G2x reboots randomly and freezes alot. Also Battery drains freaking fast.
Funny thing is that I noticed something wrong with Screen as well.  LG should not to sell smart phones with T-mobile if LG sells a crap smart phone!!!!

Have the phone for 2 days and nothing but problems. From the most common, not being able to connect to internet, market, etc. to the now as stated above rebooting issue.

Such a shame, as I like the features and styling but zero reliability. Where is LG and Tmobile to take responsibility???

Ordered from RadioShack.com, mistake because you have to call a call center in India or Pakistan to resolve any issues. G2X rebooted itself 3 times in first week. This is my first smartphone, so I don’t know how common this is. And its glitchy to boot. When scrolling, its movement is ‘herky jerky.’ Its not smooth like my ipad2 (which has never rebooted itself even once and is totally smooth at all times)
The bluetooth is dropped regularly throughout the day, and web pages close randomly without reason. Freezes, reboots, and shutoffs are now common. I don’t see how a software update or upgrade is going to resolve these issues.

When I bought the LG G2X phone about a week and half ago. The day I bought the phone the sales person had put my old sim card in the phone before I left the store. I had the phone for about a 5 days and it seemed to work fine but I had noticed that my old sim card was in the phone. So, I put the new sim card in and called T-Mobile to have them active the new sim card. Once I had the new sim card activated and in my phone it was about 2 days later when my phone wouldn’t stop rebooting. I had to take the battery out of the phone in order to get it to shut off. I am taking it back today because I can’t use it at all, it’s not able to stop rebooting and get to the main screenl. I am not sure if replacing the sim card had anything to do with causing this problem or not but I thought I would at least throw it out there just incase .

I’m using my second G2X as I had to have the first one replaced due to freezing. I’ve had this one now for about 6 weeks. Now it just keeps rebooting and will not get to the main screen. The only way to stop it is to remove the battery. Tech support told me it is the battery and that I should replace the battery. I’m traveling in a remote area right now and cannot get to a store until Monday – did you get your rebooting issue resolved? Was it the battery or the SIM card? FYI – I’ve had the same SIM card since I got this phone when it was first released. It was a new SIM card for me as I lost my old phone.

Just got my phone this morning and guess what this evening it shut itself off. Pressing the power button didn’t work . Had to take out the battery and then it worked. I don’t like this. Why can’t this fix this crap.

I can finally upgrade my phone.  And saw the commercial for this G2x on tv.  It is currently not in stock because of the glitch problem being fixed.  Then why is T-mobile still showing the commercial til this day if the phone is not available?????

My LG G2X used to shut down once a week randomly. Had to charge it twice a day or it died-I even yurned off BT, Wi-Fi and GPS with no effect-it’s the chatty Cell towers draining the battery. Yesterday my phone got stuck in a reboot loop and T-Mobile is going to ship me a replacement in 5 to 7 business days after they charge me a $20 warranty processing fee! They should replace it with a comparable smartphone or let me off the contract-neither of which I suspect will happen. Meanwhile, I”m rolling with a 2 year old feature phone since none of the store in Austin, TX have loaners!! And the loaners are feature phones anyways.

I took my phone to the T-Mobile store as it was constantly rebooting, and rebooting. The assistant was MUCH MORE HELPFUL than tech support (i had contacted them days earlier, and they told me it was the battery! No it wasn’t! – it’s a glitch in the system.) Anyway, the helpful and knowledgeable guy at the store, reset my phone by pressing the lower button on the side, (the volume button) while holding the button on the top (the on/off button) down. Hold these two buttons down for about 6 seconds. The phone should reboot correctly. This seemed to resolve my issue. He told me that they are working on a fix for this problem – available soon. I guess my gripe is with tech support who in effect, lied to me and told me the this issue, the rebooting issue, was “not a known issue”. Why do companies lie????????

This is my third phone exchange. I found a phone with no screen bleeding issue but now it will lock up or reboot atleast once a day. This is with Gingerbread btw. I’l never buy another LG product ever again. Thoes Koreans over there seem to churn out junk. Seems like Samsung is the only real Korean company that can make a device with a whole hell of allot less issues then LG. GG LG. Do us a favor and shut your factories down and quit selling us garbage that doesn’t work.

First day I thought I had a good/fast phone but 3 hourse after I turned it on, it freezed and I took the battery off and put it back, then it happened the next day and there I felt I mad a big mistake and threw my money away. The only thing that could satisfy me it others probably is when the new software (2.3.4) comes out and they fix all the problems this phone has like freezing ( the usage of the processors) video chat( no need to tango or …) and a lot more

Just got a new phone ordered through T-,mobile customer service to replace the G2x that has continued to lock up; this after 4 calls to them and a master reset and customer service acting like this is the first time they had heard of the problem and a $20 fee for them to provide the service of replacing the piece of junk!  If this one is a repeat, will have to abandon T-mobile and LG for lack of service.

    HI
THE WORST PHONE I EVER HAD
I ORDERED 2 AND BOTH FROM DAY ONE START TURNING OF IT SELF WILE TALKING
    VIBRATES AND…..
WHAT VERY AGRIVATING IS THAT T-MOBILE CHARGED ME $25 TO SEND ANOTHER PHONE IN 3RD DAY OF HAVING THE PHONE AND THEN THEY SEND OVER REFURBISHED PHONE.
AND NO ONE WANTS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THAT.
I WAS TELLING THAT IS YOUR DEFECTIVE PHONE, NEW PHONE WHICH I PAID FOR IT
WHY CHARGING ME $25 AND RESENDING A REFURBISHED PHONE BUT GOOD LUCK
TO FIND AN INTELLIGENT PERSON TO ANSWER THE QUESTION !!!! JUST THAT IS HOW IT IS !!!! BY THE WAY THE REFURBISHED PHONE i RECIVED HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS
NOW THEY SAYING LG IS AWARE OF PROBLEM AND THEY ARE TRYING TO CREATE A SOLUTION(SOFT WARE BASE)  SOME TIME IN FUTURE NO ONE KNOW WHEN AND T- MOBILE CHOSSE TO IGNORE AND IS NOT READY TO RECALL OR REPLACE!!!!!!!
KNOWING 3 OTHER PHONE COMPANIES i COULD SAY THE WORST PHONE COMPANY
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND UNPROFESSIONAL STAFF I HAVE EVER SEEN.

This is my second LG G2x and they both have had the same issues. I’m running the update 2.3.4 and the problems have gotten worse….it freezes and shuts down at least 5 times a day. Customer Service wants me to do a hard reset, then i have to reinstall all my app but lose the data that cannot be saved. Please just replace this phone with something equal in value and features and i will be happy!
