HTC EVO 3D Details, Review & Hands-On Video Roundup
Sprint’s HTC EVO 3D is the true successor of the wildly popular HTC EVO 4G, a device that came out on June 4th of 2010 and still is one of Sprint’s most popular phones.
While the HTC EVO Shift 4G may have come out at the beginning of 2011 with the EVO name attached to it, the HTC EVO 3D is considered to be the equivalent of the HTC EVO 2. In other words, the EVO 3D is where the real changes occurred.
The handset was originally announced back in March at CTIA with a scheduled release date planned for sometime this summer. Like the name suggests, the device will employ two rear 5MP cameras which will allow for the creation of 3D content and the display will be able to deliver glasses free 3D viewing. It will join Sprint’s family of WiMax 4G handsets.
The HTC EVO 3D was the winner of our Best Smartphone Award at CTIA 2011 because of its deep feature set and its rich software experience.

HTC EVO 3D Release Date
While the exact release date of the HTC EVO 3D is currently unannounced, Best Buy recently started taking covert pre-orders for the device which could mean that a release is just around the corner.
Sprint and HTC gave the device a summer launch window and a launch at the beginning of June is certainly not out of the question. After all, the HTC EVO 3D’s predecessor, the HTC EVO 4G, came out at the beginning of June.
Update: The HTC EVO 3D is officially launching June 24th.
What is the HTC EVO 3D?
The HTC EVO 3D is a 4G WiMax enabled device and it’s the successor to one of Sprint’s longtime flagship devices, the HTC EVO 4G. It’s going to come with a 4.3-inch qHD display – same size as the EVO 4G but with a higher resolution – and the display will be able to handle glasses-free 3D content.
As for the processor, the EVO 3D takes a big leap from the processor on the original EVO. The EVO 3D will feature a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor making it Sprint’s first WiMax handset with a dual-core processor.
It will also come with Android 2.3 with the new HTC Sense 3.0 out of the box. Gingerbread, while confirmed for release, has yet to come to the HTC EVO 4G.

HTC EVO 3D Features
HTC Sense 3.0: The HTC EVO 3D will have Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board but over the top of that it will have the new HTC Sense 3.0 which will bring new home screens, new applications and Friend Stream for easy Facebook and Twitter integration.
3D Capabilities: As the EVO 3D’s name suggests, the device will be capable of displaying 3D content. The dual 5MP cameras will also be able to capture 720p 3D video.
Simultaneous Voice and Data Capabilities: While in 3G/4G or Wi-Fi coverage areas, the EVO 3D will allow web surfing while on the phone.
3G/4G Mobile Hotspot Support: Like many of the recent Android devices, the EVO 3D will be able to act like a mobile hotspot and provide data connectivity for up to 8 Wi-Fi enabled devices.
HTC EVO 3D Pricing
Pricing for the HTC EVO 3D is currently an unknown. The pre-order at Best Buy did not come with any sort of official pricing or any clues as to how much the phone will cost. If we had to guess, there is a chance that it could be the usual $199 but it wouldn’t be surprising to see it listed for $250 or a little higher due to the 3D features.
