Yesterday, Sprint sent out invites for a joint event with Motorola that is set to take place on June 9th in New York City. While the purpose of the event remains under official wraps, the unofficial word coming from a “well positioned source” is that the Motorola Photon 4G will indeed be announced at the event as we suspected.

Sprint And Motorola Event

Sprint and Motorola will apparently be announcing two devices , the other possibly being a WiMax Motorola Xoom, but the Photon 4G will be the device that gets the star treatment. As for the device itself, it apparently will be a WiMax enabled version of the Motorola Atrix and will feature some pretty awesome specifications:

  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • 4.3″ qHD Display (960 x 540)
  • WiMax Support
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 8MP Camera
  • Latest Build of MotoBlur (as seen on Droid X2)
  • Soft-Grip Back with Metal Kickstand
  • Atrix-style Laptop Dock
  • World Phone

Its target shipping date is apparently sometime in July. Of course, this news means that many of you are going to have a tough choice between snagging this phone or picking up an HTC EVO 3D which will likely be coming with an unlocked bootloader.

Which one are you going to be getting?
