Google Nexus Prime Release Date Pegged for October

Adam Mills —  08/18/2011

We have heard that Google’s next major Android update, Android Ice Cream Sandwich, may launch in October. And now, we have a report from Korean site Electronic Times claiming that the next Nexus device, codenamed ‘Nexus Prime‘, might be coming out in October as well. As most of you know, the last major Android update was accompanied by the Nexus S and it appears that Google will be doing the same thing this year.

The difference? The launch is apparently going to be moved up to the beginning of Q4 this year which is likely an effort to cut into iPhone sales before and after the holiday season.

Nexus

We’re still unsure of what the Nexus Prime is all about. Rumors peg it as having a 720p Super AMOLED HD display, a new display that Samsung has apparently cooked up, and a 1.5GHz processor which may or may not be of the OMAP4 variety. This new report also claims that the display will be 4.5-inches in size.

Nothing here is set in stone, and I recommend not counting on this to happen, but if it does, how many of you are going to be buying this ‘Nexus Prime’? Are you going to wait until October?

I know I probably am.

  1. But I want it NOOOOWWWWWWWW……….

  2. The Bionic has taken so long to arrive that I’m not really interested any more. 4 months ago I would’ve bought it despite MotoBlur and a locked bootloader. I’d have jumped on the Galaxy S2, but there’s no guarantee that it’s LTE and the release date has yet to be fixed. These days, it seems entirely worth the wait to get a phone with LTE, a great dual core chip and (glee!) Ice Cream Sandwich. I’m running the original droid, and I’ve always liked the interface just fine.

  3. I’ve been waiting smartphone-less just so I can get the Nexus Prime :(

  4. I have been done with my Sprint contract for a month now.  I can jump to Verizon or stick with Sprint, but my wife and I are waiting to see what’s doing with that iPhone I keep hearing so much about.  She want’s the iPhone, and what Momma wants, Momma gets, so it’ll depend on who get’s the iPhone.  Me, I’m waiting to see what the Galaxy SII variants will be, as well as how the Bionic stacks up.  Now, with the new Nexus device arriving around the same time, it looks like I’ll be waiting for another month before making our decision.  Oh, and isn’t HTC kicking out something new around that time frame as well?

    • “want’s” ??? “get’s” ??? You DO realize that you’re essentially saying “want is” and “get is”, right? WOW…online commenting is sure graced with grammatical prowess.

I read his comment. It doesn’t have apostrophes in those words..

grammatical snob/fool …. since when do you dictate how someone should express his or herself… stop being a teck geek ( ya i wrote it)  and understand  the meaning…

        • Hey, TikalaTitlan-slash-Feekk, I don’t make the rules.  English class did.  I just follow them.  I see you have some learning to do as well, as “teck” is properly spelled “tech.”  Please go back to school, thanks.

  6. I will be waiting.  But if it doesn’t come to Verizon I will be joining the Verizon riots.

  7. Not sure what to do at this point.  Unfortunately, Motorola is late to the game with the Bionic (which I’ve wanted for months).  But now with the SGSII, Nexus Prime, and the Droid HD coming, time will tell what I choose.  But something just tells me to wait it out.

  8. When will it come to the USA? This time next year?

If it comes to sprint I will.

  10. I’ve been waiting all year long for the Droid Bionic to come out. I have been upgrade eligible on Verizon since May, but have waited for this “Android Superphone” I kept hearing about that would have 4G and dual core all in one. Well, 4 months later here I am staring down the barrel at a phone that looks to have already passed its prime in the Bionic and with rumors of October releases of the Nexus Prime, Galaxy S II and iPhone 5 why would anyone in their right mind not just wait a few more weeks, even if only to see if the Bionic holds up to the hype.

  11. I just wanted to get the nexus s, but I know im going to regret…so ill wait. I hope that Ice Cream Sandwich will also bring new stunning features and UI improvements. Im now running 2.3.4 with HTC sense 3.0 on my desire HD and I must say that Im really impressed (specially by the launcher). I hope Google can beat that with some nice 3D features!

People, the nexus phones are not locked to any networks… you can buy it from anywhere you want and use it in USA… But it is better to buy it in the states due to american firmware. BUT its not locked to any network :)

I was excited for the Bionic, but now that it’s here and turned out to be spectacularly meh, I am uninterested.  Nexus Prime is where it’s at now.

  17. Dam phone……I’m getting tired of waiting for this phone……
