Team TouchDroid Gets Android Multi-Touch Working on the HP Touchpad

I’m sure the hackers and tinkers out there will enjoy this. I’m not sure HP or the webOS team will though. The folks at Team TouchDroid have been working, as have other groups, to get a working port of Android onto the HP TouchPad. The Team TouchDroid folks now have that going and some working screen drivers that enable 10 point multi-touch as well. Kudos to them.

This begs at least two questions, prompted by by separate from the efforts of the folks doing the hacking.

  1. If the TouchPad hardware was at the root of why it never took off, why would anyone want to bother (beyond the hackers and tinkerers)? (side note: Yeah, I know there were other reasons that caused this entire circus to collapse.)
  2. If the various groups working can actually succeed in porting a real working version of Android to the TouchPad, doesn’t that give lie to the fact that the hardware was the issue?

It really doesn’t matter much when all is said and done. But, I’d love to be a fly on the wall within the webOS Team as they see this efforts move forward.
