Android Jelly Bean to Follow Ice Cream Sandwich

Adam Mills —  09/09/2011

According to a report from ThisIsMyNext, the version of Android that follows the upcoming Android Ice Cream Sandwich will be called Android Jelly Bean. This fits in with Google’s naming its software after delicious treats and doing so in alphabetical order. To recap, we’ve had Eclair, then Froyo, then Gingerbread, then Honeycomb, and shortly, we’ll see the release of Ice Cream Sandwich.

But while we apparently now know the name of Android Jelly Bean, we still don’t know what version number it’s going to have or really, any of the features that it might include when it arrives.

Their source also claims that some of the ‘game-changing’ elements of Ice Cream Sandwich have been pushed to Jelly Bean except those features were not detailed. No elaboration on what those features are or were.

Ice Cream Sandwich is, according to Eric Schmidt, going to be released either in October or November with most signs pointing to a release at some point in October along with a phone called the Samsung Nexus Prime. Or the Samsung Droid Prime.

Or both.

  1. I’m guessing the buttonless interface will be pushed back to Jelly Bean. Hope I’m wrong, though, and the Nexus Prime’s screen is so big to accommodate no buttons.

  2. You forgot about the original Cupcake and then Doughnut

  3. Hey, Google! We are becoming diabetics with all this candy!

  4. Google surely has 2 game changers on its hands.
