Samsung Nexus Prime Headed to All Carriers, Resembles A Bigger Nexus S?

Now that the Motorola Droid Bionic launch has come and gone, the eyes of the Android faithful are now firmly rested on a device called the Samsung Nexus Prime. Details are scarce and there have been rumors swirling about Verizon launching it as the Samsung Droid Prime. But what about the other carriers? And are these devices one in the same? According to a report from The Droid Guy, who claims to have seen the Nexus Prime, the device is apparently going to be headed to all carriers with Verizon getting it first in either October or November.

The rest of the carriers will follow after the Verizon launch. Why? Well, if you recall, Verizon didn’t launch a Samsung Galaxy S II, so it’s possible that Big Red snagged exclusivity over it and may indeed call it the Droid Prime.

As for the device itself, the report claims that a Samsung employee had the phone in hand at the Verizon Developers Conference in Las Vegas and when spotted, agreed to show off the device if there were no cameras, phones, hats, or backpacks. Anything that could reveal this phone.

The device is said to resemble the Nexus S, only it’s a little taller and a little wider which might be because it will have a 4G LTE radio although they couldn’t be sure. It apparently had an 8MP camera and a 2MP front-facing camera, and will also purportedly run a TI dual-core OMAP processor. No quad-core here.

Interestingly, the device is said to have one home button, just like the Samsung Note. It also was apparently running Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread and not Ice Cream Sandwich but only because the ICS build wasn’t quite ready.

So, that’s that. It’s a rumor but it seems like what they saw could very well be the elusive Samsung Nexus Prime.

How’s it sound to all of you? A possible 4G LTE Nexus on Verizon? A Nexus on all carriers?

Almost too good to be true but then again, I think Google really wants to stick it to Apple and Microsoft this year and this kind of a launch would do just that.

i agree. But it will probably be exclusive to Verizon for a bit though. I can honestly see this launching about a month after the iPhone 5. The way I see it: Droid Bionic. 1St dual core, 4g device. Roughly a month of attention devoted to it by Verizon. This completes September. October belongs to the i5. A month of devotion to it. Then…drum roll please…November, and the introduction of the new Prime. This will get a huge promotion! Verizon wants to be the carrier of the two heavyweights and will set them against each other. This is surely why they passed on the SGS II. It is a good phone, but Verizon knows that the big bets should be placed on a device rocking the newest version of Android, ICS.

This holiday season is going to ROCK!!!

Did this person who’d seen the phone mention if the beast looks more square or round? The spec looks nice but it really need a nice outlook too to make the phone perfect.  Hopefully it will be out in Oct, other wise I will have no choice to go with iphone 5 if it has LTE or then Moto DB or HTC Vigor (Thunderbold 2?)

Yea, does it have the traditional Samsung cheap empty plastic look/feel?  Or did they use quality materials on it?

Someone on 4Chan supposedly got some hands on time with it and says it’s made of metal and slightly heavier than the SGSII.

From what I’ve read accross the internet the same person who saw it also said that it was sporting a metal chassis so to calm your minds it SHOULDN’T have a plasticy feel to it hopefully atleast. Who knows samsung has already fucked me over once with the droid charge………….Worst mistake of my life.

My preference would have been HTC as the OEM of the new Nexus. But after skipping the NS and my N1 aging with its low memory issues…i will take a Nexus made by Samsung this time around. But if the new Nexus is not released on Tmobile in a timely manner i might be tempted to take a plunge for the Ruby/Amaze 4G or the Hercules/GS2. I like so many ppl are waiting for the new Nexus and it will be a big mistake and let down if Google doesn’t release it to all carriers ASAP. I am certain Apple will be going all out with the iPhone 5 or 4S on all the carriers…that will be too much temptation to millions of would be Nexus owners who may not have the new Nexus on their carrier shelves. Google must make sure they have a four pronged attack on the iPhone 5…that is unleash the new Nexus simultaneously on all the four major carriers. The Nexus will out spec the iPhone in numerous areas but Google always fail to advertise or make sure the Nexus is hyped just as much as the iPhone. I hope to see that changed…pls a few leaks of ICS/Nexus…throw some red meat to all the Nexus and Android lovers to keep them at bay… cz i am sure Apple will like to peal off some of Andys Army.

I’m in the same boat. I can’t wait to replace my trusty but dated N1 when I am eligible for an upgrade in November. I just hope T-Mobile gets the Prime shortly after Big Red. Otherwise the GSII and Ruby look very tempting.
