Enable Facebook’s Timeline Feature Right Now

There’s been intense interest in Facebook’s Timeline profile feature since the social network announced it yesterday. Instead of a profile that just shows the most recent goings on in your life, Timeline will offer up the entire story of your life. The layout is pretty cool and it looks there’s a good balance between presentation and actual information. However, Timeline didn’t make its debut on Facebook yesterday. It will roll out “over the next couple of months” according to CTO Bret Taylor.

However, if you need your new profile rightthissecond or just want to poke and play around, TechCrunch’s Greg Kumparak has the skinny on how to activate it. Yes, it is possible without breaking any rules, but this is just supposed to be for developers. But unlike the developer version of iOS 5, trying this out won’t get you in trouble or even break your computer.

All you have to do is enable developer mode, create a new app (that no one else will see and doesn’t require coding skills), and an invite to try Timeline will appear on your home page. For these steps to work you’ll need a verified account. Head over to TechCrunch for detailed directions.

Since Timeline isn’t official yet, it will probably have bugs. But who cares if you can get a glimpse before all of your friends, right?
