Galaxy Tab 7 Plus Now Ready for Pre-Order

Samsung’s second-generation Galaxy Tab 7-inch, otherwise known as the Galaxy Tab 7 Plus, is now available for pre-order on online retailer J&R’s website. The device, available with WiFi, will be available in either 16 GB or 32 GB capacities, and will feature a slimmer design than the original Galaxy Tab 7 and the new aesthetics matches those being employed by Samsung on the newer Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 8.9 models.

Currently, J&R is listing the Galaxy Tab 7 Plus in 16 GB capacity at $399 while the 32 GB model is available for pre-order at $499.

For comparison, the 16 GB 10-inch iPad with WiFi costs $500, so for the same price, you do get a more portable, albeit smaller, display but with double the entry level storage and Android 3.2 Honeycomb rather than iOS. The device will also have Samsung’s TouchWiz user experience overlay on top of Android Honeycomb.

What’s unique with the device is the inclusion of an IR port so it can control your living room home entertainment center. The device will also have a micro SD slot. The inclusion of a storage card slot is notable as Samsung’s larger tablets do not have that option.

The Galaxy Tab 7 Plus will be powered by a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor and will utilize an IPS 7-inch 1024 X 600 resolution display–the resolution is unchanged from the original Galaxy Tab 7 and is found on higher-end 7-inch slates, like the HTC Flyer, BlackBerry PlayBook, and others. The tablet will have a 3-megapixel rear camera and a front-facing camera as well.
