We’re busy preparing Gift Guides here on GBM (as if you hadn’t noticed.) I’m working on a couple for Tablet lovers. One glaring omission that I’ve noticed for those who prefer Android Tablets is that there currently is no such thing as a Gift Card option for the Android Marketplace. Google (the proprietor of the Android Marketplace) is really missing out here, especially has the holiday season edges ever closer.
Now, don’t worry though Android Tablet fans. If you’re looking to stuff a stocking with some sort of Gift Card for yourself or someone else, there is an option. That’s the Appstore for Android on Amazon.com. You can certainly purchase a Gift Card or fill up someone’s account on Amazon.
Why is this important? Well, as wonderful as Tablets are, we all know that Apps are important. In fact, I’d argue that giving the gift of a Tablet should come with a Gift Card so the new Tablet owner can go and grab a few Apps. But that’s me.
From a sales statistics point of view this will be interesting to watch over the holiday season, as the Kindle Fire is soon to debut and I’m sure that Amazon Gift Cards will accompany some of those purchases. I’m curious and maybe someone who follows the Nook Tablets better than I do can tell me this. Can you run the Amazon Android App Store on a Nook?
Anyway, Google will need to look seriously at this in the future as it tries to compete not just with Apps, but with books, music, and movies.
