Google Maps 6.0 for Android Brings Indoor Navigation

Adam Mills —  11/29/2011

Google has released a pretty massive update for today for Android users in the form of Google Maps 6.0. Why is it so big? Well, the update brings a number of features which includes new indoor navigation for transit and retail. Yes, that means that you can now navigate your favorite mall or your nearest airport with your phone. No excuse for getting lost again, folks.

The update brings detailed floor plans where indoor mapping is available which means that you’ll be able to determine where exits are, what floor your on, where a retail store is, and more.

Take a look at the difference in these photos depicting San Francisco International Airport before and after the update:

In addition to indoor mapping, there is now a quick drop-down menu that provides easy access to your favorite things. That means no more fumbling around to get to your Favorite Places or to Google Latitude.

Google has also added a new Places home screen that will show you popular searches for the area you’re in.

The update is available right now for devices running Android 2.1 and above and you can find it on the Android Market right here.
