Yesterday at CES 2012, Huawei made a pretty big splash with its announcement of an extremely thin smartphone called the Ascend P1 S that will be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich right out of the box. It also has some other high-end specifications that impress and fortunately, we were able to get hands-on with the device.

First, let’s bring you up to speed.

The Ascend P1 S checks in with a form factor that measures in at 6.68mm at its thinnest point. That thinner than Verizon’s Motorola Droid RAZR which boasts a design that is a mere 7.1mm. We can’t stress this enough. The Ascend P1 S is an extremely thin smartphone.

It’s able to fit a ton of high-end specs into that design as well. The P1 S has a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD display that sports 540×960 resolution, a dual-core TI OMAP 4460 processor which the company says is clocked at 1.5GHz, and a rear 8MP camera that can record and playback in 1080p quality.

Overall, we came away pretty impressed with Huawei’s latest offering and we will bring you our final thoughts when the device arrives in just a couple of months time.

The company has promised to get the phone out in Europe, Asia-Pacific, North America, Australia, Middle East, and China in April of 2012.

Carriers and price though, remain a mystery.
