LG Launching Galaxy S III Rival in May?

LG is reportedly going to be launching a rival to the still unannounced Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone during the month of May.

According to a report from DDaily, courtesy of The Verge, the device will be LG’s answer to the Galaxy S III, a device that will be announced during the first half of this year.

An LG employee, who wished to remain anonymous, was cited saying that the device is currently known as the D1L. That same employee did not confirm anything other than the name.

However, the device is rumored to have a 4.7-inch display on board with the same 1280 x 720 pixel resolution that the Galaxy S III is expected to have. It’s also supposedly going to come with a 1.5GHz dual-core S4 Snapdragon processor, 4G LTE data speeds, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

It apparently will be the first LG phone to ship with Android 4.0 on board.

The emergence of this device comes after LG announced several devices at Mobile World Congress in February. In fact, the company announced a grand total of six new Android smartphones including three L-series smartphones – the L3, L5 and L7, the Optimus 3D Max, the Optimus Vu, and the Optimus 4X HD.

So it would appear that LG is following a release strategy that is the exact opposite of its competitors.

While HTC and Motorola have pledged fewer phones for 2012, LG is apparently content on flooding the market with new Android devices.

HTC has both the One X and the upcoming EVO 4G LTE lined up to compete with the Galaxy S III while Motorola has yet to announce a next-gen device for the summer.
