Verizon Galaxy Nexus Update: Still Waiting

Published

on

Last week, I told you that I had yet to receive the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus update, you know, the update that takes the device to Android 4.0.4 and seems to iron out a lot of the issues that the device has had since it launched in December of 2011. It’s now Monday, the weekend has passed and I still don’t have an update.

Needless to say, I’m pretty frustrated. That’s partly because I don’t have the update but it’s also because I don’t understand what is taking Verizon so long to roll this update out to owners.

It also doesn’t help that I haven’t been able to manually update like many others.

I know several Galaxy Nexus owners and the majority have not yet received the update. It has been almost five days since it apparently started rolling out.

Fun.

That would be acceptable if it were a major Android update, you know, like Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for instance.

But this is a bug fix update and I have no clue why the process is taking so long. I’ve seen Android 4.0 updates roll out faster than this.

Not helping is the fact that I have new-found optimism in the software and the fixes that it promises to bring to my device. I’ve heard from several Galaxy Nexus owners who say that the software has eliminated many of the device’s issues.

Yeah, there seem to be a few issues remaining for some owners but for the most part, I’m hearing good things.

So, as you might imagine, the last few days have been absolute torture for me and with Verizon being Verizon, I still have absolutely no idea about when I might expect to receive the update.

Is anyone else out there still waiting now that the weekend is over or am I the only one? I’m really hoping it’s not the latter.

I went to the phone info on my galaxy nexus phone and was able to download the update at 12:08am EDT on 6/5/12. The message that came up was that I would be unable to use the phone for 5-7 min. while the update happens. I then had to select update now, then the phone shut off, then came back on with the google logo then went into the update. A lime green android robot appeared with a storm of data in his belly with a bar graph underneath showing the updates progress. The total update seemed to be less than the time mentioned in the notice (about 3 or 4 mins). After the update finished, the google logo came back on and then the notice you update has completed with an “ok” box to touch.
After you touch that the home screen appears and you are all set.

Just received the update for the Galaxy Nexus here too, and about time. Now waiting to see how it performs and why it was so sought after.

FIRST PHONE WITH GOOGLE BRAND OPERATING SYSTEM

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the first phone with the Android Ice Cream Sandwich Operating System and comes with the speed of Verizon’s LTE network. The hottest hardware feature of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is its Super AMOLED screen with HD resolution-a first for Samsung Smartphone.Coming to the design the Galaxy Nexus has a glossy display, piano-black bezel and textured black. It has a subtle curve which nicely contours to the hand. The browser in Ice Cream Sandwich is just about as close as you can get to a desktop one. You can now set the browser to request full desktop versions of sites. You can sync your bookmarks from the desktop Chrome browser appGoogle has added support for tabbed browsing and you can quick view which tab are open, each with a live preview of that page.It has no physical hardware keys on its face.Instead, the touch-sensitive Back, Home and Search keys in Ice Cream Sandwich are built into the display as soft keys.

Don’t feel so bad about not receiving the update. I haven’t been totally happy with my Nexus from day one. Poor battery life, poor signal, pretty much everything you could think of is wrong with my phone. The biggest issue is of course the poor signal. Every other phone I have had would get great signal where I’m located but this thing is nothing but a paper weight. I like you and many many others who have been waiting for the update was expecting something good to come from it but you know the only noticeable thing I have seen from the update is my screen rotation and automatic brightness is working better. I say to hell with this piece of trash of a phone. Oh! and Verizon, thanks for nothing. AT&T here I come.
