AT&T Galaxy Note Ice Cream Sandwich Release Date Still Unknown

At the beginning of May, it appeared as though the AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note Ice Cream Sandwich release date was fast approaching. However, we’re now in the middle of June and Galaxy Note owners are still wondering where their scoop of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is.

The Samsung Galaxy Note Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich roll out has been a strange one. Originally, the Galaxy Note’s Android 4.0 upgrade was supposed to roll out in Q1 of this year. That meant either January, February or March. Then, Samsung pushed the update roll out to Q2 meaning April, May or June.

Owners of the international version of the Galaxy Note began receiving the update in early May, right around the same time several AT&T Galaxy Note Ice Cream Sandwich sightings took place.

The first sighting was of a new unreleased Ice Cream Sandwich ROM leaked for the AT&T Galaxy Note, a sign that AT&T and Samsung were working hard to get this update out to customers.

Shortly after that, the update itself was spotted on the Samsung Galaxy Note that Samsung was displaying prominently at CTIA 2012 in New Orleans. That to us seemed to point to a release date in the not-so-distant future.

Well, we’re now nearing the end of June and not only have we not seen any new progress as far as the update is concerned, AT&T and Samsung have remained mum on the subject which has left owners guessing as to when the 5.3-inch Galaxy Note phablet might get its upgrade to Android 4.0.

What makes matters worse is that AT&T originally promised that the update would be coming to owners of the Galaxy Note “soon“.

Galaxy Note owners are anxiously awaiting the update not only because it promises to offer a more feature rich operating system but because it will bring some unique applications to the device for use with the S-Pen, including:

  • Note
  • Meeting Note
  • Idea Note
  • Magazine
  • Travel
  • Diary
  • Recipe
  • Wolfram Alpha integration
  • Shape Match
  • Formula Match
  • Exclusive version of Angry Birds

Needless to say, users on AT&T (like our own Kevin Purcell) are growing impatient with the lack of news in regards to the update, especially since the device has been out since 2011. Hopefully AT&T and Samsung update owners soon. We’ll keep our ears wide open.

How are you Galaxy Note owners holding up? Are you becoming impatient or are you still hanging in there?

First quarter android update means Halloween to AT+T.
This I know from experience. Just let it happen when it does, and don’t loose sleep over it.
there’s nothing you can do .

  2. Austin says

It’s not so bad that they moved it from the first quarter to the second but I would much rather have a date to look forward to. If AT&T was to say they are going to release the update on June 30th I would not care as much but instead they are taking the hush hush route and not releasing any information and that is just irritating or at least just give us a proper estimated date range that will be kept and not pushed any farther.

Samsung has there new line up of phone’s using ics .AT&T maybe trying to get their bloatware on the galaxy note why? They promised to give update q1 ,lots of customers bought their phone in good faith with the update coming soon lol if the update does not come in q2 then i and several other customers will not trust samsung or at&t again and in future will not get new phone until it has operating system that should be of current time.very upset with both

    • VJ says

I totally agree! I might have waited for the Galaxy S III or the Note 2 had I known this update would take this long with no due date in sight. It’s equivalent to false advertising.

  4. Joe says

I wonder if they are going to do like past history. The Note II is due out Q3 so buy that with ICS Samsung and AT&T are notorious for that BTW where is the Gingerbread ROM AT&T promised for my Dell Streak 5?????

  5. Do says

Ics update notification 30 minutes ago and i was able to update with no problem los angeles ca usa

  6. EJ says

Headed back to iPhone 5 and another carrier and won’t be back. Gave it a try and the simplicity of the iphone, lack of OS fragmentation and the honesty, communication and customer service of another carrier is overdue. A jailbroken iphone has all the neat features of android anyway.

iPhone 5 will have a bigger screen which is what I wanted anyway. Samsung and At&t are history. At&t has a dated customer service model that is pitiful. Software delays happen. Total lack of communication with the customer is unacceptable.

  7. al says

Since my experience was with a motorola, I don’t think it’s a samsung issue. It’s with AT+T and Android. And I doubt they are delaying in order to remove bloatware, in fact I’m pretty sure that squeezing in the bloatware is part of the delay.

  8. Dave says

Sorry, but I’ve had a jail broken iPhone, and there’s still tons that apple keeps locked down, the calendar database for one.
    That

    • EJ says

Not sure how long it has been since you owned an iphone or what jailbreak you’ve used but as far as I can tell calendar database is wide open once jailbroken. Take another look.

There are cydia apps that have full access and do everything I can think of. (as far as I know)

      For direct access.

      - Install sqlite3 via Cydia (you must have Cydia in “Developer” mode so it lists the command-line utilities)

      - ssh to your iPhone (as user mobile)

      - Run sqlite3 and open the calendar database

      iPhone:~ mobile$ sqlite3 /var/mobile/Library/Calendar/Calendar.sqlitedb

      Cheers

  9. Dave says

That said, I switched to ATT only because I had to, to get an iPhone–and I’m way past that, two superior Androids later. But if Tmobile releases a note with ICS before ATT, this Note will have been my last ATT purchase. I can’t imagine that they recoup their investment on the stupid bloatware anyway. Their navigation software is stupid. Google maps does it all and more for free.
Add no LTE in my area, broken promises, throttled”unlimited”plan, exorbitant tethering charges. This will be the last ATT straw for me.

  10. Ron says

Here we ago again. They NEVER release an update to the Infuse so I got rid of that and was real hesitant buying this phone. Don’t expect it anytime soon, IF EVER!

    • hipal says

The did released the update for infuse you have to do it manually through Samsung kies software.

  11. james says

Att has till the end of this month to push out ics or my note will be receiving the only one ics rom.

    • joe says

get the newest ics ROM off rootattgalaxynote.com. they have the best and most stable ones. also at&t will never update so you might as well do it and when they do you can delete the ROM

  12. Don Canlas says

i receive the ics update notification last night and downloaded
With no issues…I have the N 7000 unlocked note .currently in los angeles ca

  13. John says

I don’t understand why AT&T doesn’t tell it’s customers that have bought their product why they have not given the update? After publicizing the update, I would think a statement about the update would at least come from AT&T to explain the delay.

    • Don Canlas says

im on the att network and the ics update notification showed up last nightaround 3 am pacific time and was able to download and install …i have an unlocked version of note tho

  14. Dixie says

Lets all contact AT&T and Samsung that we all want a Full Refund for our not updated Notes!

  15. Nick says

Only because the update is so big for the Note (Premium Suite) am I willing to wait … but it is frustrating to see them talking about Jelly Bean before we even see ICS…

  16. MikeyFTL says

Even after AT&T finally released GB for the Infuse, it was still a buggy, bloated mess. Most Infuse owners like myself were running a custom ROM because the official AT&T release was unacceptable. Expect AT&T to screw up ICS in one way or another. I’d give the xda developers a few weeks to release a far superior ROM for the Note. You’re all setting yourselves up for disappointment.

  17. mat says

Im furious. Why on earth has noone explained …
    a) why they are 6 months late and
    b) when the update will be available to everyone
    c) why some phones are getting this now and not others

I’ll go back to apple as soon as the new iphone comes out.

  18. roger says

so i spend $750.00 on a phone that was promised ics around the time of getting it.late June no signs of ics. That’s Att for you. Galaxy note is better than my old 4s iphone. But a least apple don’t have you waiting for and update. I stopped waiting for ics update. Get when you do.

  19. Larry Pullos says

Too late…sold the Note got a HTC X WITH ICS!

It’s not that I didn’t like the phone, but this did teach me that ATT is not committed to keeping my phone current on their network. It also taught me that their published claims are simply lies.

The final insult is the alleged “bonus app pack” for the Note, just another promise of something I should have got but won’t get.

  20. Greg says

Samsung/AT&T did the very same thing with the original Galaxy Captivate S that I had. What made it worse was that the Captivate had several known issues and it became glaringly apparent that neither Samsung nor AT&T had any interest in issuing fixes. Their focus had moved on to the SII. I don’t think that is the case with the Note, even though I’ve heard various news about the Note II. But it sure would be nice if we weren’t always the last to get these things.

  21. Rob says

This is getting to a point of real annoyance now… I purchased a premium phone with the promise that it would have a premium OS “soon”, now I’m left with an inferior product.

Seriously, AT&T… Get with it. This is poor service.

  22. Eric P says

I think the lack of commitment (or just basic communications) is what’s most frustrating here. The current Note OS works well, but a lot of us purchased this unit knowing ICS was around the corner. AT&T has no concept of customer communications or they just don’t give a poop. They need a good kick in the butt as a reminder that they need our business more than we need theirs – and they’ve very clearly forgotten that.

The other thing that’s most frustrating is that AT&T kills the NFC functionality in the device for some stupid reason. Never before have I ever been so tempted to load a pirated ROM on my device to (A) get the update now and (B) enable NFC.

If AT&T thinks that the handcuffs they put on their customers through the form of multi-year contracts is going to keep people like me from jumping ship, they’re wrong.

  23. John Pollard says

I am growing impatient waiting for this update. Two large companies like AT & T and Samsung should be able to get this into the devices of their users – I know there is a way – they need the will! I know AT & T has adopted a wait and see approach , waiting to see the problems that have been encountered by the adoption so far of ICS, but this wait is getting to be extreme.

  24. Ira Steinberg says

Every day I wait and pray
That ICS will come my way
But OTA and kies don’t bring ‘er
So I’m giving ATT the finger…..

  25. EJ says

I went to Gazelle.com and sold my iphone and note for $600 bucks. That will cover the cancellation fee from At&t and more. Off to another carrier permanently.

At$t thanks for nickle and dimeing, miserable customer service. Ill make sure to let everyone know.

    Peace

    EJ

  26. Dave Nj says

I am not so sure this is all ATT’s hold up. I also have the Samsung 7.0 Plus (WIFI) that Samsung promised to provide ICS upgrade “soon” but it seemed the company is so focused on release new models (with almost same specs as existing models) with ICS that they just ignored the owners of earlier models! I am now experiencing the exact same neglect by Samsung for the Note. Whether ATT is deploying ICS for the Note, I know for sure ATT has nothing to do with the Samsung 7.0 Plus hold up. I have given up on Samsung. Being too cocky, Samsung will end up like other mega successful phone device companies such as the Palm, Rim, Nokia, etc..that became a big pile of poop!

  27. alst says

Well 3 more days and they miss the q2 dateline, lol. I didn’t take it seriously. Q1 means halloween to at+t.

  28. skly27 says

Is there a possibility they completely skip ICS for the Note and go straight to Jellybean?

Honestly at this point that’d be fine for me. Jellybean is out mid-july and, well that is only a matter of 1.5-2.5 weeks away. I can deal with that.

  29. Impatient Beyond Belief says

Hahahaha. The guy who thinks they might just give us Jellybean is officially delusional. It takes them 6+ months to get ICS to us, but they’ll give us JB the week it debuts? Wow…. I guess some people just crack under the anxiety of waiting. Off his rocker!

      • Rick says

I spent 2 hours on telephone on and off with ATT about the ICS upgrade.
Bottom line, don’t hold your breath, or you gonna die! They dispute they ever said 1st or 2nd quarter 2012 release. As a matter of fact, they claim there is no release date planned. Do I hear class-action law suit perhaps….. Sign me up!

    • skly27 says

I don’t think it’s gonna happen. Just speculation. No reason to be a fucking prick about it.

      • Rick says

Excuse me? I am a fucking prick to expect a company deliver on commitments it made to paying customers? Seems like you are one who knows nothing about false advertising laws, nor customer satisfaction. As I do have extensive legal training, contract law, as well as customer rights, ignorance like yours is what allows companies to get away with this bullshit!

  30. Ej says

Just received our Sprint iPhones and I feel better already.

You guys know that Verizon and Sprint will pay you for your Notes so that the cost of switching over will be cheaper if not free.

Vote with your pocketbooks. Otherwise your just a number in a database to AT$T.

Give it a decade or so and they’ll go the way of the other dinosaurs. Its almost inevitable. Then again they’ll probably receive a goverment bailout before that occurs.
