Samsung Galaxy Nexus Sales to Resume Next Week

Google has confirmed that it removed the Samsung Galaxy Nexus from the Google Play Store but that Galaxy Nexus sales will resume next week.

The company, in comments made to ABC News, confirmed that it had pulled the Galaxy Nexus due to Judge Lucy Koh’s injunction against Samsung. As it stands, the Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ edition is listed as ‘coming soon,’ and Google is now only taking email addresses should you wish to be notified when it becomes available through the Google Play Store.

Google’s HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus has been missing from the Google Play Store since Tuesday. The Verizon and Sprint versions of the Galaxy Nexus remain unaffected.

Galaxy Nexus sales will resume next week.

However, it appears that the ban on Galaxy Nexus sales won’t last long. Google has confirmed that the device will go back on sale next week running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is said to take care of the problems at the heart of Apple’s dispute with Samsung over the Galaxy Nexus.

Apple’s issue with the Galaxy Nexus stems from the device’s Quick Search Box feature. Apple claims that it holds a patent over “universal interface for retrieval of information in a computer system” and that the Galaxy Nexus violates it.

Judge Koh, in her ruling, sided with Apple and said that the company would need to post a $96 million bond for the injunction to go into effect. Apple posted the bond on Tuesday which led to the ban on sales of the Galaxy Nexus.

The version of the Galaxy Nexus that has seen the ban is not the 4G LTE model on Sprint or Verizon but instead, the unlocked HSPA+ model.

The Galaxy Nexus is a penta-band 3G/HSPA+/4G smartphone that works on T-Mobile’s and AT&T’s network in the U.S. and at its $349 price point, is an extremely good value.

The phone only stands to improve with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Google’s latest software that it introduced at Google I/O in June.
