Samsung Galaxy Note Android 4.0.4 Update Starts to Roll Out

Published

on

Just a day after the AT&T Galaxy Note Ice Cream Sandwich update finally rolled out, it has become apparent that the international version of the Samsung Galaxy Note has begun to receive an update to Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich that brings some nifty features along with it.

SamMobile is reporting that the Galaxy Note Android 4.0.4 update has begun to trickle out to users in Germany through Samsung Kies.

It’s unclear if the software is available anywhere else at the moment. If it’s not, those who live in other European countries should expect the software to arrive sometime in the near future.

The update is said to bring a number of new features to the table that will surely delight Galaxy Note owners in Germany and will cause AT&T Galaxy Note owners to start looking forward to yet another update.

The first feature is the PopUp Play feature that is found on the Galaxy S III. This feature allows owners to play videos on top of applications that might be open.

The Galaxy Note just started to receive Android 4.0.4

The Android 4.0.4 update is also said to bring signature unlock which will allow users to unlock their phone using a signature jotted down with the device’s S-Pen stylus.

Those are the two big pieces of the update but it appears that there will also be speed enhancements, some new icons, and very likely some bug fixes on board as well that should squash any issues Galaxy Note owners have been having with Ice Cream Sandwich.

While the update sounds fantastic, AT&T owners should temper their expectations as far as a release date is concerned. The international Galaxy Note got ICS beginning in May while the AT&T model got ICS yesterday.

Android 4.0.4 is coming to the AT&T model, no doubt, but it will take a few weeks to arrive.

Just tried to download, nothing, called ATT customer service ans was placed on hold for Samsung. Samsung said their servers are over tasked, uninstall kies on computer and try again in 72 hours.

    Nice!

4.0.4 not sure how but i am not complain
    ing.you must
have the updated version of kies to get ice cream
sandwich, also if your computer is 64 bit you will
have more trouble then if its 32 bit.called samsung

I’m experiencing some screen resolution weirdness after running the update on AT&T Galaxy Note. Mainly apps that were offering fuller screen resolution – like Instapaper, Evernote, and most noticeably, B&N Nook reader app – now show phone-formatted size screen, which looks terrible. So the Nook app, for instance, which in its Gingerbread 2.3 version displayed the tablet-resolution view of the bookshelf and within books with lots of font sizing choices from really small to large, is now showing the phone-size resolution with huge bookshelf icons and insanely large typeface within the books even when you choose the tiniest size. Same with Instapaper, which in the pre-ICS update Gingerbread version showed the toolbar on the left and your read later articles on the right, now shows only the articles and the tool bar is gone. In the case of Instapaper the former was actually a bug and you had to turn the Note sideways to see everything if you tapped settings, so the change isn’t altogether terrible. But for the Nook the app is now unusable as it is, and I’d like to know if there is a way to change the DPI per app but not system-wide, to correct those apps which, like Nook, now look terrible after the ICS update. I’d rather not root, if possible. Any suggestions?

Tired updating the new software but it indicates no new software to update.

    Can advise?

    Thanks you.

Surely this update has improved the speed but I found a problem. Google talk app used to make voice and video call over mobile network but after this update it says to connect to wifi to make voice or video calls. So far I have found only this problem. Other than that my device has become much more faster than before.

So far, not a fan. Very buggy. Not faster imo a wifi or tethering no longer works.

Just got the 4.0.4 on my Samsung Note GT-N7000.

Had a few, blank update indicators prior but it installed in about 10 – 15mins No bugs found so far, memory control seems better as I’m getting lower ram usage, i.e. its staying green longer lol!

Ironically I now have a shed load of space with the internal space and my 64GB MicroSD and loads of space for apps < my major grumble with the HTC Desire now the weak point is not enough memory lol!

And yes I know the Samsung Galaxy Note only supports 32GB but it absolutely does work with a 64GB.

I updated my note today after it became available in India. Here there was couple of noticeable differences in the dail / calll log where they removed direct dial shot cut that came with 4.0.3. You now have to swipe to make a call. Second is the mesaage screen.. The attachment icon is now placed to the left. I am also facing issues with Gallery and Music. They fail to open. The error message says there is no memory. My RAM usage is still in the region of 500.. I dont understand where does the memory go then?

Updated my Note to 4.0.4. Improved performance and battery life.. Got the video pop option as present in S3. Changes in the keyboard layout makes it more comfortable and smooth. Signature unlock option now included in the Security menu.

Just got the update in Malta, on Galaxy Note to 4.0.4 I think it is registered as a German device. However the video pop up and signature unlock features were already present in version 4.0.3

Only positive item this update did for me was to increase home screen transition speeds. Regrettably it also dumped all my carefully layed out homescreens and application pages. Android please note this is a very bad user experience. It also reinstalled bloatware.

New interface design moved the rubbish bin (delete feature) to a less convenient place on the bottom right corner, rather than bottom centre of page. It also includes a visually poor widget gallery section under the applications pages.

IMHO 4.0.4 is faster but 4.0.3 was way better visually and functionally. They should just have made it faster, period.

yes I agree .. . I actually think a lot of stuff runs slower . . and 4.0.3 was way easier . . seems like they justed wanted to make something more complicated when it wasnt necessary

    after updating galaxy note.i found:

1.battery consumption is low.i.e increased battery life from 26% in 1 hr to 20% in 1 hr while using internet on wifi.
2.some of icons like restart and phone icon changed.
3.some of options are added in browser, and menu.
4.pop up play and signature security are added.
5.there is some changes in memo, and music
6.phone ui is little bit fast.
