Samsung Galaxy S II Jelly Bean Update Status Unclear

Published

on

While Samsung went ahead and confirmed the Jelly Bean updates for the Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy S III and the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, the company did not confirm Jelly Bean for another device rumored to be getting the update, the Samsung Galaxy S II.

On stage at IFA 2012, Samsung confirmed the Jelly Bean updates for those three devices and, in addition, confirmed the Galaxy Note Jelly Bean update through Twitter.

However, the company did not say whether or not the Galaxy S II, another of its iconic smartphones, would be seeing the update “very soon” like the rest of them. In fact, Samsung did not say if the Galaxy S II would ever get the upgrade to Jelly Bean, something that left owners scratching their heads wondering about their device’s chances.

Oddly enough, Samsung didn’t mention the Galaxy S II Jelly Bean update in its announcements.

And while Samsung did nothing to soothe the minds of worried Galaxy S II owners, rumors do peg the Galaxy S II Jelly Bean update as coming sometime in Q4 of this year.

We’ve heard that testing of the update went well and that Samsung will indeed be rolling out the Galaxy S II Jelly Bean update which makes the lack of an announcement fairly suspicious.

Of course, it’s possible that Samsung wants to get the Galaxy S III, the Galaxy S II’s successor, up to speed with Jelly Bean before confirming anything. It’s also possible that it needs to do some additional testing to ensure that the update is going to work well with the aging devices.

Obviously, Galaxy S II owners would have loved to have seen some confirmation but at this point, that has yet to surface which means that Galaxy S II owners will have to wait.

For now, owners in Europe and other regions not in the United States should keep Q4 circled on the calendar. Those in the U.S. should have 2013 on the brain as American carriers still haven’t been able to quickly update their devices to major Android updates.

    >>additional testing to ensure that the update is going to work well with the aging devices.

This ‘aging device’ still has a dual-core CPU running as fast or faster than most phones released today.

This is why people hate cellphones and cellphone companies – Bleeding-edge, $700 phones that are barely a year old are yesterday’s trash as far as the manufacturer is concerned. I’ve been running ICS on my Galaxy S2 flawlessly for over 6 months and there is STILL no official release even for that version of Android!

And GS 2 on Tmobile. It’s just not OTA. Must connect to Samsung Kies to get it.
