Acer Aspire S7 is a Super Thin, Touchscreen Windows 8 Ultrabook

Published

Acer announces a notebook just 2.5mm thicker than the new iPad with a touchscreen capable of supporting 10-finger multitouch and Windows 8.

If that doesn’t spark interest, the full 1080P HD resolution on both the 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch Aspire S7 Ultrabooks and 6 hour battery life should, especially with claims of up to 12 hours with an optional second battery.

The thin notebook packs a backlit keyboard and a new TwinAir cooling system to keep the Intel 3rd Gen Core i5 or Core i7 processors cool.

The Acer Aspire S7 comes in 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch models. Both of these Ultrabooks include 1080P HD displays and a 10 finger touch experience. The 13.3-inch model, Acer Apsire S7-391,  features a Gorilla Glass 2 cover with a cushion between the aluminum frame and the Gorilla Glass to prevent damage if the system is dropped.

This model features a display that folds open to 180 degrees allowing users to share the screen and rotate the display to accommodate multiple viewing angles and uses. The 11.6-inch Acer Apsire S7-191 includes an aluminum unibody and aluminum cover.

Both models use what Acer calls a dual torque hinge to keep the display steady while using the touchscreen. Acer borrows this technology from the automotive industry, making the display part of the hinge. Acer claims this will keep the display stable while using touch, a problem with some touch screen notebooks.

Some ultrathin notebooks skip backlit keys to cut down on thickness, but Acer improvises with an electroluminescent backlit keyboard. The company claims this is the thinnest backlit keyboard and offers a gentler backlight.

Inside the 11.6-inch Model is a 3rd generation 1.7GHz Intel Core i5 processor capable of boosting to 2.6GHz and a 128GB SSD in RAID 0. The 13.3-inch Aspire S7 uses a 1.9GHz Intel Core i7 processor capable of boosting to 3.0GHz and a 256GB SSD in RAID 0. Both notebooks include 4GB RAM. The notebooks use Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics and include 1.3MP HD webcams.
