We will absolutely be one of the people considered the next time Google delivers its Nexus phone…but we’re not going to receive special treatment. – Rick Osterloh, Motorola Senior Vice President of Product Management

Thus far, we haven’t heard anything specifically about a Motorola Droid Nexus though we have heard a rumor that Google might be releasing as many as five Nexus smartphones from various manufacturers.

The two devices that have surfaced thus as possible Nexus candidates are the LG Optimus G and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 2. And though those are the rumored devices, that doesn’t mean Motorola, HTC and Sony aren’t still in the mix.

Fortunately, we should know about the Nexus manufacturer or manufacturers soon. Currently, rumor has it, the new Nexus or Nexus’ will be unveiled within 30 days, possibly at the All Things D: Dive Into Mobile conference which is set to kick off on October 29th.

The conference was the launching pad for Android 3.0 and the Motorola Xoom in 2010 and Andy Rubin, Google’s Android chief, is scheduled to take the stage at the event.

We have also heard rumblings about a 32GB Nexus 7 and possibly one with cellular connectivity.

The Nexus smartphone is a yearly release from Google and it offers a vanilla version of Android, in this case, likely Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, along with high-end specifications and an unlocked bootloader.

It appeals to those that not only want high-end specifications but want to be able to fully customize their device. This year’s release will be replacing last year’s device, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
