LG today confirmed not only the existence of the new Nexus phone but also, the launch date of the upcoming rumored LG Nexus 4 as well as Google’s new Android 4.2 operating it seems.

According to IBN Live, LG India’s Mobile Product Planning head Amit Gujral confirmed the device and operating system during an interview at an event for the company’s LG Optimus Vu. Gujral, if accurate, states that the device will launch on October 29th, as was previously rumored and it will be running Android 4.2, a new Android operating system, when it arrives.

Gujral says that the device will launch in India by the end of November though he doesn’t give a specific release date.

This is likely the LG Nexus 4.

He also confirms some of the specifications that emerged in earlier leaks including the device’s 4.7-inch display, Android 4.2 operating system and its 1.5GHz quad-core processor.

Specifically, here is how the LG Nexus 4 should look, spec-wise, when it’s announced later on this month:

  • 4.7-inch display with 1280×768 resolution
  • 1.5GHz Quad-core APQ8064 Processor (Translation: Snapdragon S4 Pro)
  • 16GB/8GB Storage
  • 8MP camera/1.3MP front-facing
  • 2100mAh battery
  • 2GB of RAM

It also looks like it will feature a plastic design, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the previous version of the Nexus smartphone.

Gujral’s confirmation comes after weeks of speculation and leaks regarding the new Nexus smartphone, all of which were followed by an announcement regarding an Android event set to take place on October 29th in New York City where Google will talk Android.

The company has yet to announce what it will be revealing at the event but at this point the LG Nexus 4 looks all but certain. Two other devices that could launch at the event are a 3G version of the Nexus 7 and a Nexus 10 tablet said to be made by Samsung.

We’ve also heard about a 32GB Nexus 7 and a $99 Nexus 7, both of which could be announced at the event as well.

As for Android 4.2, which may or may not be Key Lime Pie (we’re guessing it’s Jelly Bean), not much is known about the software other than rumors about a new Gmail, a new Gallery app and another feature called Quick Settings which can be seen in the video below.

October 29th is certainly a date that those who are waiting for the new Nexus should circle on the calendar, especially now that LG has apparently confirmed one of Android’s biggest secrets.
