Samsung Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2 Update Rolls Out to More Users

It has been nearly a week since the Samsung Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update first started rolling out to owners of the Google Play version of the device, a device that is also known as the ‘Takju’ Galaxy Nexus. Now, it appears that those who own the other version of the Galaxy Nexus, the international model dubbed the Yakju, are seeing the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update roll out.

The Android 4.2 Jelly Bean roll out has begun today for owners of the Yakju Galaxy Nexus which is the international Galaxy Nexus not found in the Google Play Store. The update should be rolling out to owners over the next few days. However, those who don’t want to wait for the update will be happy to know that the software is available for manual installation thanks to Google.

The Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2 update is rolling out for more users.

Of course, we recommend that those who aren’t accustomed to flashing updates to just wait for the official roll out to arrive instead of flashing the update manually. There is always a chance that something could go wrong and given that the software is rolling out, it should only be a matter of hours of days before the prompt to download and install the update arrives.

Those who own a Yakju Galaxy Nexus might want to hold off as well considering the amount of bugs that are on board Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Nexus owners with the latest update are seeing several bugs, some major and some minor, that came along with Android 4.2. Those who are skeptical, might want to hold off until Google releases an update to solve the issues.

When that bug fix will arrive is unknown but Google says it will be releasing a fix for the missing December bug soon and some of the other issues could be fixed along with that.

As for the Sprint and Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2 Jelly Bean updates, it’s unclear when they will roll out though given the amount of bugs, we don’t expect them to arrive any time soon.

This is exactly why Google is not Apple. Don’t bemoan Verizon because they can’t send out updates the same time Google releases them. These bugs are simply unacceptable and ultimately are a customer representative nightmare. Imagine that call-center receiving phone calls because users can’t add December appointments, birthdays, etc. That’s just the smallest of bugs, not including slow charging, bluetooth issues, random reboots, horrible battery life, etc. How can VZW push this version to its devices and thus be saddled with the customer fall-out? Thank you for recognizing that this isn’t a VZW issue, but an issue with Google. Apple does it the right way: Send the update to carriers for testing and approval before publicly saying its available. That way, the software doesn’t feel like beta and everyone gets the update at the same time.
