A new report suggests that Samsung, Sony and LG will be following in the footsteps of HTC and Sharp by releasing devices with 5-inch 1080p HD displays in the first half of 2013. If true, it could mean that the Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung’s rumored next-generation smartphone, could launch with that type of display next year.
According to a report from Digitimes, a technology industry publication that has a mixed track record, Samsung, Sony, LG, along with Huawei and ZTE, will be releasing smartphones featuring 5-inch displays with 1080p resolution at some point during the first half of next year. HTC already rolled out the Droid DNA aka the HTC Butterfly while Sharp’s Aquos SH930W comes with a 1080p screen as well.
The report does not mention any of the devices by name but it’s safe to assume that it’s talking about the Samsung Galaxy S4, a device that is heavily rumored to be coming with a 1080p display at a size rumored to be either 5-inches or 4.99-inches.
What’s more, a separate report from The Verge claims that the Galaxy S4 won’t have an unbreakable display as has been rumored with Samsung instead opting to pass on the flexible OLED display technology until a later date.
The Samsung Galaxy S4, one of the most heavily rumored smartphones at the end of 2012, is rumored to be making its debut at MWC 2013 in February though Samsung has yet to confirm anything.
As for the devices made by LG and Sony, LG is rumored to be making a device called the LG Optimus G2 that supposedly has a 5-inch 1080p display on board and Sony is rumored to have two smartphones with 5-inch displays which are currently dubbed the Sony Odin and Sony Yuga.
ZTE is rumored to be showing off a new 5-inch smartphone called the Grand S at CES 2013 in January while Huawei is said to be working on a device called the Ascend D2 which may feature a 1080p display and more.
HTC is also rumored to be bringing another 5-inch 1080p smartphone to the table sometime in the first half of 2013, a device that is called the HTC M7 and which also supposedly features a 5-inch display and 1080p resolution.
