Sprint Galaxy Nexus 4.2 Update Pegged for February, Verizon MIA

The Sprint Galaxy Nexus 4.2 update roll out is reportedly imminent based on a CDMA driver in the pipeline at Sprint. This update could signal that the Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2 is not far behind, considering both phones use CDMA technology.

Benjamin Kerensa dug up details on the Galaxy Nexus Baseband update called, GA02, which  is in the works at Sprint. This baseband update is the CMDA driver for Android 4.2 according to Kerensa.

Kerensa claims the Sprint Galaxy Nexus 4.2 update is in final testing and should roll out to users in February. In an email to Gotta Be Mobile he narrows the release down to the first week of February.

The news comes a day after we shared how to upgrade the Sprint Galaxy Nexus to Android 4.2 with a flashable leaked ROM. The Nexus is a flash-friendly device, but many users will want to wait two to three weeks to stay on official releases.

There is no new details about the Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4.2 update, but progress on the Sprint Galaxy Nexus is a promising sign. Verizon has yet to comment on when Galaxy Nexus owners can expect the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update.

The Verizon Galaxy Nexus and Sprint Galaxy Nexus are left out of the Jelly Bean update fun, while the GSM Galaxy Nexus received its Android 4.2 update in 2012.

Android 4.2 is a minor update from Android 4.1, but it delivers a collection of new features that are worth upgrading for. Some of the most popular features are Photo Sphere which allows users to take 360 degree panoramic photos, the new Google Gesture keyboard that delivers a Swype like typing option and a better Google Now experience.
