Samsung Galaxy Owners Reporting Crippling Copy & Paste Bug

Owners of several Samsung Galaxy devices including the Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy S2 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet are reporting a crippling copy and paste bug wherein the Clipboard continually crashes and doesn’t allow users to use the copy and paste function or any of the features associated with the Clipboard.

In a lengthy thread on Samsung’s Developers Forum, as noted by the counternotions Twitter account, users of Samsung’s mobile devices running Android 3.0 or higher, which includes the Galaxy S2, Galaxy S3 and other Galaxy phones, are complaining about a bug wherein users trying to copy and paste content, the Clipboard application on board these devices force closes for no apparent reason.

Owners of Samsung Galaxy devices are reporting a crippling copy and paste bug.

According to users, this happens anywhere they try using the function including in applications like Google Chrome where the Clipboard function is extremely useful. One Galaxy S3 user describes it in this way.

I am having problem with my clipboard. Every time I Used copy, past and cut the app force to close. This happens on everything when using the clipboard.

Others describing the issue tell a similar story with some going even further in depth, particularly those on Google’s Android support page. Here, one user describes what is happening to his Sprint Galaxy S3.

I am experiencing the very same issue in any app where I can copy and paste. The app will hang up and force close when I try to paste text that has been copied. In the stock messenger app, when I select a text that has already been sent, and tap the option to copy message, the app force closes.

@SamsungSupport on twitter recommended that I hard press in a text field, tap on “clipboard”, and erase. Unfortunately, when clipboard pops up it is not functional. I tap it, and the icon just disappears. They also recommended that I go into “Menu>Settings>Applications>All>Samsung Keyboard, then clear data and cache.” This did not work, and to make things worse it deleted all of my custom Swipe dictionary words.

So far this has been extremely frustrating, having no copy and paste is almost like having a PC without a mouse; crippling. I would love to see JellyBean sooner than later, but it would be smart to get an ICS patch pronto to resolve this high priority issue.

The Galaxy S2 is experiencing the issue as well.

Despite numerous calls for fixes, in both threads and to Samsung’s social media accounts, it appears that this crippling bug is still running rampant across Samsung’s mobile devices. Owners are being advised to use a factory reset on their device, something that involves wiping the entire phone, but even then there are users that say that the problem returned.

So I got an htc evo 4g on launch date June 2010. After a year and getting the gingerbread update, the phone would constantly rebooting itself, like 3 to 4 times a day. It drove me nuts so I bought the Epic 4g touch (galaxy s2). That phone was perfect but has the weakest gps known to man. I couldn’t get a gps lock with an open sky to save my life. So then I preordered and bought the galaxy s3 after reading reviews that they fixed the gps issue. However, I now get this issue. This is the second time I’ve encountered this copy issue with the s3. I’ve done a factory reset before but the issue came back. I called samsung and they said no one has encountered this issue. I’m like you’re crazy; it’s all over the internet.

So if there’s not a fix for this soon, I’m done with Samsung and possibly Android.

A “Samsung Developer”, Konrad Krakowiak, who has seemingly been monitoring the situation says that the bug has been reported to Samsung. However, it was back in October when Krakowiak said that a fix would be coming soon.

The issue appears fairly widespread and it’s likely something that Samsung will need to address before the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4 which is said to be coming next month with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean on board.

Have any Galaxy owners seen this issue on their smartphone or tablet?

I’m having problem when I try typing on facebook. The word “paste” appears eventhough I haven’t copied anything. I might be done with Samsung if this and any other issues keep popping up. That’s why I left HTC.

My Vzw GS3 had this problem. It started with the minor update that deliberately crippled search due to Apple lawsuit. My copy /paste problem was repaired with Jelly bean update.
