The upcoming HTC One will be launching with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board but it appears that it may not stay there for long as the HTC One Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update release has been pegged at one to two months.

In November, Google rolled out the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update for its Nexus devices, an update that while incremental, still boasts some pretty powerful features including more Google Now functionality, a useful Quick Settings menu, lock screen widgets, a gesture-enhanced stock keyboard, and Photo Sphere which allows for 360 panoramic photos.

The HTC One Android 4.2 update release has been pegged at 1-2 months.

The HTC One Android 4.2 update release has been pegged at 1-2 months.

The software has been scarcely released to Android phones with the Verizon Galaxy Nexus just recently getting the update and the Samsung Galaxy S4 likely to become one of, if not the first device to launch with Android 4.2 out of the box. That is a bit of a trump card over one of its fiercest rivals, the HTC One, which will be arriving in the next few weeks with Android 4.1 on board.

Those prospective HTC One owners concerned about a lengthy wait for Android 4.2 should ease a little though as a noted HTC leakster claims that the Android 4.2 update will be arriving in one to two months for the HTC One.

@LlabTooFeR, who has been accurate with insider information in regards to HTC, claims that the HTC One Android 4.2 release date will arrive in one to two months. What that means is that the update could arrive in late April or late May, right around the time that the Galaxy S4 arrives. Currently, the Galaxy S4 is slated to be coming in late April in some regions and May in others.

So, it could be that HTC brings the HTC One up to speed shortly after the device launches given that it’s not set to arrive in most regions until the month of April due to manufacturing issues.

HTC has not yet given the update a release date so it’s best to take the timing with a grain of salt, update timing can often change, but HTC will likely be doing whatever it can to keep pace with the Galaxy S4 so it would be unsurprising to see the update roll out in that time frame.

Something else to keep in mind is that American carriers typically roll their updates out long after the global versions get their updates so that means the AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint HTC One models may not see their update until mid to late summer if this timing holds up.

The user who asked the question also inquired about the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie update but from the response and the timing, it appears that the HTC One will be upgraded first to Android 4.2 instead of skipping to Android 5.0.

That android 4.2 will be outdated within a month by then. HTC One failure will result in the resignation of Peter Chou, HTC CEO.
