HTC One X Android 5.0 Update in Doubt Adam Mills04/22/2013 While most of the news in regards to future HTC upgrades has been good, today, there is some bad news afoot as a noted HTC leakster claims that the HTC One X Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update will be the last Android update for the aging dual-core smartphone which means that an upgrade to Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie is in doubt. Since the debut of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean back in November, we have only seen a sparse amount of non-Nexus devices upgraded to the latest version of Android. HTC, one of the largest manufacturers of Android devices in the world, actually just released its latest flagship, the HTC One, without Android 4.2 on board. Instead, the device is running Android 4.1. The company has also yet to release any information about the HTC One’s upcoming Android 4.2 update or Android 4.2 updates for older devices.Advertisement Read: HTC One X Android 4.2 & Sense 5 Update Again Pegged for Summer. The HTC One X Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie update is in doubt. Fortunately, we have seen some unofficial but reliable information leak out suggesting that HTC has plans to upgrade a host of devices with Android 4.2 along with Sense 5. Rumors suggest they will be coming together for a number of HTC phones, including the HTC One X. And while that news is great for HTC One X owners, there is also some potential bad news at work here regarding future updates.Advertisement @jaimemartinez_ No ETAs at the moment…4.2.2 will be last update for One XAdvertisement — LlabTooFeR (@LlabTooFeR) April 20, 2013 According to HTC leakster and developer @LLabTooFeR, the HTC One X Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update will be its last major Android update which means that as of right now, its Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie update is in doubt. At Google I/O in May, Google will supposedly be debuting Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, the latest version of Android, and one that will replace Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. So far, no devices have been confirmed to be getting the update, which means that the HTC One X Android 5.0 update is still possible, but @LlabTooFeR has been reliable with his information so at this point, the roll out is certainly in jeopardy. @jaimemartinez_ No ETAs at the moment…4.2.2 will be last update for One XAdvertisement — LlabTooFeR (@LlabTooFeR) April 20, 2013 If it doesn’t occur, it wouldn’t be the first time that HTC users have been burned. The HTC Rezound for instance, despite having solid hardware, has been left on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The Droid Incredible 2, which was promised Android 4.0 by the end of August, is still without its update. If the HTC One X Android 5.0 update is in doubt, then its perceivable that other lesser phones, like the HTC One SV and HTC One S, may never see Android 5.0 either. @LLabTooFeR also alludes to the Galaxy S3 as potentially not getting the update, something that we’ve heard is a possibility. However, given that his leaks typically pertain to HTC phones, Galaxy S3 owners should take that with a larger grain of salt than the possibility of an HTC One X Android 5.0 update never rolling out.
