Verizon HTC One Release Takes Another Twist

The Verizon HTC One has had a long, rumored, and often confusing road to launch and today, the release has taken yet another twist as the HTC Butterfly 2, the device that some thought might be the basis for Verizon’s version of the HTC One, is now rumored to be coming out sometime in the third quarter of this year.

Over the past few months, the Verizon HTC One has been an extremely hard device to peg. Rumors have been all over the board in terms of features and release dates. Complicating things is the fact that rumors that have emerged recently have only made its possible arrival even more confusing than it already was.

The Verizon HTC One situation has taken another twist today.

Yesterday, we heard some confusing rumors about the Verizon HTC One, specifically, that it could be announced on May 22nd at CTIA. In addition, we heard that it wouldn’t be out for two to three months putting its release date in either July or August. The rumor also suggested that the device could potentially be called something other than the HTC One which seemed to add steam behind rumors that Verizon’s HTC One may not be based on the HTC One that is on shelves, but the HTC Butterfly 2, the successor to the original Butterfly.

The Butterfly arrived as the Droid DNA and the Droid DNA is the device most likely to be replaced by Verizon’s HTC One. Problem is, a new rumor suggests that HTC’s Butterfly 2 won’t be coming until the third quarter of this year which could potentially mean that we won’t see a Verizon HTC One competitor until July, August or September.

The information comes from the hit or miss publication Digitimes which claims that HTC is preparing a HTC Butterfly 2 for the third quarter. This matches up with the rumored release of two to three months as the third quarter takes place over the course of July, August and September. However, it doesn’t mirror rumors suggesting that the device will be coming in the “near future” or those that suggested that a Verizon HTC One would be out a month or two after the current models.

So, instead of clearing things up, this latest rumor has only made things worse, particularly for those that may be holding out for a Verizon HTC One or those hoping for a supercharged HTC Butterfly 2 instead.

At this point, all HTC is saying is that it’s comfortable with the Droid DNA which it believes competes with the 2013 lineup of phones. Verizon hasn’t said anything in regards to the rumors.

The HTC One of course is HTC’s latest and greatest smartphone featuring a 4.7-inch 1080p display, quad-core processor, Ultrapixel camera, Android 4.1, the new Sense 5 and more.
